    HEXUS.tv - features :: Channel Expo 2007

    Hello, is there anybody home? Our beloved Nick Haywood searches the deserted Channel Expo 2007 for signs of life, and does manage to find one or two interesting morsels. Dual-format HD-DVD and Blu-ray player anyone?

    How very sad CTS is this year.

    Although, Louise Walsh sure loves her hardware.

    She strokes it like a pro, she could get a job on the shopping channel no problem.

    He claims it was the reason his wrist was sore. We, obviously, believe there are other factors to consider.

    Ssshhhhhh

    Nick - glad you thought our PC was quiet! But I can't believe you missed the most exciting new product of the whole show which was right next to it - Zalman's 3D monitor (yes, wow!!).

    Do those polarising things actually work - like the iMax?

    I.e. did you only try it out with the game they had (was that WoW?) i'd be interested to see what the effect would be in a movie like say.. the Matrix with bullets everywhere.

    I watched some chicks playing volleyball (purely to see the 3D effect, you understand) and a bloke doing martial arts stuff.

    They both looked ok, but the image quality on the vollyeball babes was better... I'll pull out their press stuff and see if I can find out why it was... pretty sure it was something to do with how the image was recorded and played back.

    Yes that'll be the one! At the moment, the 3D monitors have only model numbers not names:

    ZM-M190 - 19"
    ZM-M190W - 19" widescreen
    ZM-M220W - 22" widescreen

    The 3D mode works with virtually any game, as long as you have an nVidia graphics card (any model) and you load the 3D nVidia driver.

    The only TV/movie footage it works with is footage which was filmed in 3D (i.e. using two cameras). So I'm afraid existing films are not 3D-able!
