Looking to get back into this...

Hiya Marlin's and other Hexus IL-2 regualars!
I am thinking now that forgotten battles is out that i might get this game... some of you may remember i had a ripped off copy of IL-2 that i eventually unistalled because i felt guilty of not paying for it (I'm just an odd boy at times...). Anyway, I've seen it in HMV for £20, does anyone know if i can pick it up for cheaper? I already have a mediocre joystick so the game is the only thing i need to get.
Looking forward to flying again with you guys - do you all use the GSV server?

It was seen in Virgin Megastores about 2 months ago for 15 quid, no sale or anything, just a nice bargain

Are you talking about the original IL-2 or FB? I picked up IL-2 for £7.99 inc. from play.com iirc...

At the moment it seems to be everywhere for £20 or as part of a two for £30 deal. Not sure what other games I want though....

Yeh i think I'll pick it up for £20 after my exams next week coz I've now got the cash. I just watched top-gun actually, and after seeing that, I'm damn looking forward to some flying... a shame I've only ever done 1 game with the [MA] guys, and in it as i intercepted a Stuka, one of you came from above and blew him away before i could cannon him instead. Damn frag stealers...

I used to play with hardcore settings on, it wasn't that hard really. I never shot down anything better than an AI mediocre Mischersmit though...

I think it is easier to learn if you just start out on hard settings, but give yourself map icons and on screen icons so you can tell firend from foe and see the distance the enemy is away from you. Out of aircraft views are only ever good for screenshots []

OK, I'll give it a try. I'll practice a bit more against AI planes on harder settings (just use normal at the moment) then see how I do. I can normally get home quite well after missions, my take-offs and landings are a bit erratic but I survive. I jusy need help identifying others and landing strip directions...

When i get back into it, the first thing I'm gonig to practise is taking out the tail gunners and then Pilots on Bombers using only machine guns. I recon if i can get my targetting skills perfect when it comes to sniping out enemy pilots, I can get away with using easy to handle but poorly armed fighters like the Mig (my faverite plane was the Mig Shavak... the version with cannons).

After that, I want to take the place of the poor buggers and become an l337 tail gunner who can always blow the pilots away...

I'd be happy to take you up in anything with a back seat chum, but being a gunner, against proper hard enemies is tough, confusing and rather nerve wracking - espesh if the guy driving knows what he can do with his aircraft, and doesn't tell you what's about to happen.....

You got FB, or original flavour?

I'm getting FB, and very soon hopefully. I have exams next week and the Monday after next, but i might treat myself to it the weekend before that final exam (but not play it until after it). Then i can have something to look forward too... can't wait, I really want to become an expert at something and i think i used to be alright at tail gunning when i had IL-2 before.

you wanna try it in a Heinkel mate.. different ball game - you gotta have 5 trigger fingers - and know instictively where your gunner position binds are - cos you got all 5 gun positions, bomb aimer and the pilot

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet... so as i see that Axis fighter wizz past attempting to boom and zoom, i hit front gunner bind and strafe him as he flies past eh?

Do you get score for shooting down enemy aircraft with the defensive machine guns, or do the whole crew get it?
