FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
/struts into Briefing room, wearing full Russian VVS pilot gear, but with a bottle of very English Lend-Lease Bomber beer
S! OK pilots....listen up. 21/07/2008 Hyper Lobby 20:00 hours onward. MA_Zak and MA_Rias will be airborn for the first time in a long time. Accompanied, I'm assured by internal memo (text message ) by MA_TiG who's recently grabbed a hangar in our neck of the woods.MA_Dak has been called up, as fighter jocks needed So.....who else can be up and about with us? We'll be starting by playing a few private servers, and the password will be netwings Please be aware that we may be on and off line most of the afternoon too but the deadly serious stuff will probably begin in the evening when the majority of pilots can be airborn. Intention: to beat four bales of excrement out of online dogfight servers. All out dogfighting NOT an option to begin with, we're looking for organised assaults on the bad boy's bases ![]() Hoping to see some experienced pilots up in the big blue...Geist? Tumble? NickSmith and Gerrard? All needed pls ![]() Skii? Clingy? Trig? Hat#s away I think Pls report in with times and likely availability ![]() Over n Out S! |

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
S!
Gerrard reporting in, Sir! Shouldn't be a problem next week. Plenty of notice this time; maybe enough to forget about it! ![]() Don't think I've flown at all this year. I suppose I should dust off the ol' X52 Flight Control System and get some mud-moving practise in. Have a decent Internet connection this time, so comms shouldn't the problem it was last time. Completely off topic (but a sort of coincidence), but went into a computer simulation lab today at work and was very surprised to see 16 Cougar HOTAS's! Considering how stingy the RAF is, I was surprised to see top-of-the-range stuff here! However, the simulation is working on F16 jets (for some reason), so is very apprpriate. Not sure if it's just because they haven't been used much (it's for maintenance rather than flying), but wasn't that impressed with them. The base is very heavy and sturdy, but when moving the stick around, you could "feel" the 4 axis and wasn't that smooth.
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt; then it's bloody hilarious!

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
I'm in!
GCSE Exams finish the day before, so I don't have to worry about revision or anything. I haven't played in a while, so I might need a bit of practice on the basics. *Dusts off the Evo*

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
OK present andcorrect pilots....
Sat Fight Flight Night is close. Try to run a few Quick Misson builders to get your eye in, tonight, and maybe try some grass runway takeoffs... dont want too many bent prop's. We're bound to be handed some Spits for the coming "rhubarbs" but I'd like to see some other skills too. Often see P38's and P47's out there....try a couple. P38's might need airbrakes assigned to your control to pull out of dives. But they carry a LOT of ordnance so it's worth it. Ditto IL-2's. P47's can carry two huge bombs and they are good for strafing trains etc so might be worthy of a practice, Over 'n Out. |

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
Never realised P38's had airbrakes! Been flying them pretty much the same as IL2, although a lot faster! I quite like them; 10x rockets, 2x 1000lb bombs, 2 engines and fast, but a bit weak in comparison to the IL2. Tried a 1v1 with an IL2, and the rear gunner got a lucky bullet into one of my engines, which caught fire before I could down him.
However, what most impressed me was the A20 with a 1000lb FAB. That obliterates soft targets! Like a very small nuke. I've also been playing around with level bombing and using the bombsights. Not quite on par with LGBs, but have been getting mixed results, even with the auto level stabiliser. Also noticed how weak AAA emplacements are and how useful rockets are against them. Only have to be within a small radius to destroy them; unlike tanks, which require a direct hit. Although, I've found the IL2 3-series to be best for them, with those 2 big cannons!
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt; then it's bloody hilarious!

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
The A20 is a beast... pretty agile for a big girl and plenty quick if you get the props set right
they are also indecently armed with the 5 .50s in the nose and a maximum payload (in game) of 2200lb (1x1000lb & 4x300lb) Great for convoys, tanks if you hit em square on the beam with the guns and shipping Trike landing gear makes for good easy landings when you've taken a pasting too. Engine last forever - I remember one map we absolutely owned everything on - I took a direct flak hit to the port engine, and limped home - about 10 minutes flying time with the reduced speed. It held up long enough to make a nice controlled landing back home. Briiliant piece of kit

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
So, how do you set the props right? I haven't quite grasped the whole prop pitch thing yet. I assume 100% is maximum angle, but not neccessary maximum speed? Isn't there something to do with matching the RPM to the throttle setting as well?

Re: FIGHT NIGHT PILOTS : SAT 21st JUNE
Prop Pitch is like gears on a bike
100% is lowest gear. Makes the engine rev high, good for take off. 95% is like 2nd and thrid gear all rolled into one.....good for accelerating.... I never go below 85%,,,thats for downhill ...ie dives. It stops the engione overevving. I use Page up and Page down to increase and decrease... and on german planes and late Spits, it's auto. |
