CoD4: Original install vs 1.7
Good morning soldiers
At ease.I have now got both versions installed..... original and 1.7 (just copy entire folder for original somewhere else, rename it, and install patch, and copy shortcut for start icon to desktop) The difference in skill levels is astounding. And in play styles. I took my kill ratio/rank etc with the replication, so I started with both at the same lvl. After a few days, and about 6 hours play, my original install kil ratio/promotions are better...and my 1.7 version is no where near as good. Apart from the vastly higher lvl of servers to play on the latest versions, there is LOADS more bunny hopping, long distance kills, 100% map knowledge etc on 1.7 The guys on original install (while still good anbd kicking my arse often) are playing smaller servers, with better team work and it's more fun. Maybe thats cos I do better on them, after all, no one likes dying all the time. Which is what happens on 1.7 to me. OK, there's a couple of new maps I dont know my way around yet, but man they're all much better. I have decided that cheating is a lot less prevailent than I was worried about on 1.6. I am deliberately using UAV jammer, a silncer, AND Dead Silent movement, and that frankly is my only way to a half decent score. It is scary howmany people MUST play on the radar icons and not whats in front of them, because I have wandered up to people and knifed them while they look at me, and it's not lag. They just dont know if I'm friendly or not. A few are bunny hopping around the corner and filling the space with double tap bullets from a P90, but not as often as 1.6. Does anyone else play both versions? |

Re: CoD4: Original install vs 1.7
as far as im concerned playing the virgin install is playing with hackers and cheats most of the time and i tend to avoid at all costs.
yeh you may get some noobs, but that just brings on a false sense that your better at the game than you really are. |

Re: CoD4: Original install vs 1.7
I have seen FAR less cheating in the orignal than in 1.6
So long as you choose Punkbuster servers, it's fine. It must be..... I get killed less in wierd situations, even in busy servers. 1.6 was just loaded with people cheating like gits. |

Re: CoD4: Original install vs 1.7
Well, I only picked up the PC version at the beginning of the week, but I have found that compared to playing on the consoles, it's a much different experience. For a start, no bloody bunny hopping! That has started to get right on my nerves!
I not sure if I have faced people cheating as I only play on Punkbuster servers, but that is another difference as cheating rarely happens on consoles. Unless people can deliberately cause a high ping whenever they decide to leg it across open space and you can't hit them because they are jerking across! |

Ther eis an answer to stupid radar-play. Play on Hardcore servers. I find it's much more fun, and so much more rewarding to do well - yes the other punters are very good, but it's more real skill rather than hacks and using in game aids to win. Feels less humiliating to get yer arse handed to you basically

I never actually played softcore... well I have a couple of times but its just crap... you can shoot someone loads of times and they can still turn around and RPG you before they die... hardcore is easier

Re: CoD4: Original install vs 1.7
I working up to getting a silenced M14 before I go to hardcore. One shot kills, and with the UAV Jammer, no-one has to know where you are.

dead silence works well on pc as more people use headphones than on consoles. Its more challenging to figure out where they are walking using tv or hifi stereo output. |

Re: CoD4: Original install vs 1.7
Nah, silencer stops red dots from a appearing when you shoot. UAV jammer stops red dots appearing when the enemy calls a UAV.
In hardcore you would use a silencer so the enemy can't hear when you shoot |

Dead Silent is superb, because I can't hear myself
![]() And that means anything I CAN hear, is either someone else OR something burning (flaming barrels make a horrible noise) Next thread due ![]() Sound cards |
