Yeah i been playing it since 2003 (pre source), right up to current day - some excellent maps and still a fairly tight community with good teamplay out there. I can play many other games but i always come back to DOD.

Many people who have never played DOD source and watch the trailer all "grained" up think its just "trailer separate FMV footage" when in fact all the models/animation/maps etc are all "in game" action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BRYh...eature=related

A body suit that gives you minor electric shocks on points of the body where bullets hit you in game.
So in theory you either get better at the game or you just get shocked lots of times.

    - Better squad control. I like the idea of being able to talk to the group of people closest to me in the battlefield. No point telling someone who is at the other of the map to move forward. Actually working as a squad to do things. I find it hard to do this in most war games.
    - Generally just feeling like there is war going on all around you, not just where you are. I've never gotten this from any game tbh, but I feel like it would completely immerse me in the experience if I could see fighting going on in the distance and such.
    - Proper use of camouflage. I think being able to really blend into the environment would be a great experience in multiplayer. Don't know of any game that lets you properly hide amongst the landscape.
ArmA 2 and the expansions has all of the above.

Re: What do War Game's need next?

    Lowe... it didn't solve it....

One of the reasons I gave up with ARMA2 (very sadly) was that it DIDNT get solved.

This thread is still relevant... what do war games need next?

Well... what they need is to be as good as ARMA2 to play, to be as deep and as large...., but as easy to install and play, with no need for constant grief and rubbish server strength.... as CoD 5.

Had ARMA2 stayed at a sensible level of usability, I'd still be on it.. but the different mods and installs and server versions lost me.. so I walked

We need more realism. I'm fed up being shot from across the map by 2 rounds from an UZI!!

well ARMA2 did that fine... even with sniper rifles, you have to calc elevation.. and at that distance, Uzi's were pants.

thing is..... you gotta get the game to work first

and then find a server that's not been modded to run a weird russian police mod.... that's like Monopoly where you get "paid" every few minutes!

Re: What do War Game's need next?

    Indeed we do.

If these threads weren't so sporadic, I'd have a reputation like Rollo now for my BF2-love.

I still think it is by far the best combination of battlefield tactics, player-on-player combat and general playability. CoD loses out on the first (regrettably BC2 does as well IMO), ARMA on the latter, and many games like ETQW lose out on the middle. Only BF2 really achieved all three.

Re: What do War Game's need next?

Basically a mixture between counter strike and battlefield. With not billions of weapons and explosives and no weapon unlocking. I want to be able to log in and fight on an even playing field without having to play for 200 hours to get the best weapon. Also I hate all this dust effect in modern games really annoys me in a competitive situation, single player fine but I don't want it in mp! I'd love to get exicited about bf3 but I think it's going to be concentrated on realism and graphics and lose out on game play.

Pain, that's what wargames need. You get shot, you feel it, I bet your kills/deaths stats would look a lot better very quickly!
