    Re: World of Tanks

Actually getting quite frustrated with this game already after only playing for a few days. Started off great, had a good laugh, used the tier 1 tanks quite well and got some nice kills, damage done and wins.

Now I'm playing tier 2 and 3 more and it seems that the light tanks are just useless. I get one shot by ANYTHING I come up against, I get shot at from invisible targets, I can't hide, I can't outrun others... It just seems so pointless me even trying to play.

Yes, I know it has RPG elements, and I'm probably playing against fully upgraded T2/T3 tanks, but if that's the level of unbalance just at low tiers, getting experience to upgrade my tanks and crew is gonna take weeks of grinding as I'm hardly getting any exp for losing and not doing any damage.

So at this moment, I'm gonna have to put this down as a bit of fun for 5 minutes, but it looks like an incredibly long, boring and repetitive grind just to get to a competitive level. No thanks.

    Re: World of Tanks

I think T2 is the most fun actually. You're either against T1 tanks or upto T3 mix. The Russian tank has a better gun that should go through anything you meet, but the German one can be a bit pants. As for T3, I'd avoid it really for tanks. Its OK with artillery and not too bad with a TD. Of course, you'd need gold to "skip" the T3 phase to get the XP for T4.

Went for the M4 Sherman which has been okay. 105mm howitzer added. Need to get a few upgrades yet but seems fine.

Got killed by a T-44. Not pleasent.

My stats are awful. Getting about one kill every two games!

    Re: World of Tanks

I had a great game in my t34 last night, managed to rack up 5 kills and 2 damaged, best I've even done.

my Artillery skills are still lacking, best I've managed there is 3 kill 2 of which are point blank line of sight kills when a couple of tanks snuck round the back, luckly for me they where trying to get the other artillery and didn't spot me until too late.
The Wespe can use HEAT (high explosive anti-tank) rounds, not much good for general artillery work but they are very powerful with line of sight direct hits.

Must admit getting slightly bored, not so much with the game in general but the lack of maps, doing the same maps time and again is starting to get a little repetitive.

    Re: World of Tanks

You need a premium account to make a clan I think. In one game, I managed to get 7 hits on different tanks with my arty, but no kills. However, I did get a badge and plenty of XP and credits for it (we won as well).

I've spent most of this evening in a slightly pimped out BT-2 with a 100% commander and gunner but didn't have enough gold for driver as well. Also moved my camo-net to it, although I doubt it would do me much good. Apart from a couple of German tanks head on, I can damage everything with my gun. Managed to get 6 kills and a couple of damages and spots in one game! Also had a very close game with just one of us left on each team, and I managed to get the capture with just 2% left (after the 5 second wait after one base is caught). Lots of fun!

Just wondering how well this game is going to operate as a free game once they go live as their stopping the 200 gold a day, I know ultimately their aim is to make money but if you can't even platoon up with friends without spending money its not the best lol.

    Re: World of Tanks

Really enjoying this game too. Just recently started using the arty, up to lv3 - the SU26 or whatever its called. With decent spotters you can do a lot of damage - had about 5 or 6 kills in a match. Also trying to level up the A-20 to take my turn spotting but its a long slog. Wasted tons of xp and gold fannying around at the beginning.
Sort of tempted to pre order one of the packages now.

Oh and I'd be up for a Hexus platoon - tag is georgeousxxx (I know its a dumb name - started as an in joke that stuck)

    Re: World of Tanks

Only the person starting the platoon need to be premium, although I think voice chat will not work unless you're premium

I've got my M3 Lee now, dear god that's a bad tank, it's a TD without the accuracy, a weak gun for tier 4 and it sticks up so much it's next to impossible to hide in bushes, even behind rocks is tough, unless you're on flat ground you can pretty much garranty that they can see and shoot at you well before you can shoot at them.

Discovered that the auto balance is not as good as I thought it was, it just looks at vehical type and tier, not upgrade level, crew level, personal skill.

Still grinding with my T34 and Wespe (I'm getting better at artillery now) and still have my Marder2, trying to train the crew up on that.

I don't know if any of you pay any attention to the general chat? it can be good at times, and poisonous at others, the forums seem pretty bad too.
But considering this is a game based around PvP not surprised it's a bit poisonous.

I've noticed that the chat is in a foreign language most of the time! As for the voice chat, just use Teamspeak or something rather than pay to use it in game.

I'll be around this evening with the following: -

    T2 Light (BT-2)
    T3 Arty (Sturmpz II)
    T4 Medium (Pnzkpf III)
    T4 TD (Hetzer)
    T5 Heavy (KV)

    Re: World of Tanks

OK, now starting to get back into it. I think I was just expecting too much from my little light tank and not realising it's potential. Still, they are great fun in tier 1 and 2, but not my kind of tank when coming up against tier 3 opponents. So, I have been playing TD's and SPG's more and they are much more fun!

My plan for release is to go down the T-26 and BT-2 tree's for the USSR tanks until I get the KV and the T-34, then split off and pick up the S-51 SPG and the SU-85 TD. I'm thinking that will be the quickest way to get one of each tank type.

Also, I joined the KIA clan with KIAEddz from here, but if you guys get a Hexus clan going and it works, then count me in.

    Re: World of Tanks

I managed to upgrade my spg to a su-5 last night. Just waiting to enough xp to drop the 152mm on it. Should make for some interesting games. Had my best game before the upgrade with mu su-26 as well. Detected 3 players, destroyed 6 and damaged a further 4. Since it was the first game I won that night, I ended up with 2700 xp which helped the upgrade process.

Just a shame the su5 doesn't have a turret like the su26 so I am back waiting an age for the aim to get a fix.
