A while ago several VEF'ers campaigned long and hard to get the IL2 selectable instead of it appearing in the 'Attack' section - This would tie in with the Heinkels, Stukas, and, albeit limited amounts of, TB3's. They argued it wasn't a fighter-bomber like the other Attack/Jabo planes, and eventually Starshoy agreed and made it selectable. All bombers (Including Recons) have a full amount of selectable fighter planes for the agreed amount set by the host (IE, 8 fighters if Host sets max 8 fighters). But, as Attack/Jabo planes are classed as extra fighter planes, the number of fighters along with them is reduced by 2 to compensate.

And as the 110 rolled up with AEP, it made its way onto the selectable list - and thats no problem at all. Except for when its used in the jackass way, intercepting IL2's with no regard for target
