    "Jarhead" the film

We watched this last night, full 7 1/2 foot projector sized wall image, upscaled by the PS3....

    and it was weird genius.

Mad... a bit wierd... and frankly suprising.. but genius.

Occasionally you sit down to watch a film and it catch's you in the exact right mood, at the right point, and makes a mark

Jarhead starts a bit weird, is frankly kinda standard issue yank war film (soldier joins, hates the army, gets beaten up a bit, finds a niche.... etc) but the mental attachment I made with the lead characters was very quick, and the hard scenes to film are stunning put together.

Burning oil fields with incredible visuals (close to the beauty of House of the Flying Daggers for a very short time), mammoth fights and distraught disagreements between fellow soldiers.... and comedy in the most unusual places.

And a finale that was a let down and yet a jubilant end result for the lead character... a total lack of kills!

If yuo see it for a couple of quid... buy iy and settle down with a four pack. It's very good, but you gotta want it to be good. Don't watch it if you're fidgeting, or your attention's else where

    Re: "Jarhead" the film

I saw it a while ago and whilst i could understand the parralell they drew with the disappointment of the soldier and the general flow of the film, it didn't really sit right with me. It wasn't a bad film by any stretch of the imagination, it was just the general disappointment was something i felt overall... if you know what i mean?

agree totally... I felt disappointed too, but not for myself.. for the soldier... it was so clever, and made with such brilliance...

I dunno.. I just found it on te right day, I was in the right mood and it was perfect timing.

I enjoyed it massively.... but I understand that not everyone would.

    Re: "Jarhead" the film

Hurt Locker is the same kinda thing. Bomb Disposal, heart racing at times, touching in others.

Personally I really like Jarhead. War film that actually shows more a behind the scenes look at war instead of just the conflict, very interesting.

But you still cant beat Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, K19 & Men of Honour (One of DeNiros best roles ever, same goes for Cuba Gooding Jr)

You should watch Body of Lies and Blood Diamond also if you like conflict type stuff that has more to it than Call of Duty moments!!

    Blood Diamond, is rubbish.

    total rubbish.

Leonoardo needs taking out and slapping, upside the head.

You want a proper conflict film...? Real qaulity, with emotion and triggers connected to your heart, your head and your emotions?

    Hotel Rwanda

    It is awesome.

    Re: "Jarhead" the film

I rated Jarhead pretty high myself, as well as Hurt Locker. Just watched Restrepo on the weekend, and found that an interesting one, quite bleak and aimless, but not because it was poor, but because of the situation that the soldiers featured are in

I did enjoy the film, it was very good but not what I expected. I was expecting a much similar film to Full Metal Jacket, yet it was the lack of any real violence that made it a still entertaining film to watch.

    Re: "Jarhead" the film

I agree totally with the above post, anyone seen Buffalo Soldiers.
Now not like Jarhead, but still has the feeling that the army 'isnt being used' for it main purpose.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252299/

Jarhead was like a behind the scenes of war and how disapointing it can be.
    IMO.

    Re: "Jarhead" the film

'Jarhead' was interesting and quite unusual but was not one I would particularly wish to view again.

However, 'Buffalo Soldiers' is one I certainly would wish to revisit.

    Re: "Jarhead" the film

If you enjoyed Jarhead I'd recommend checking out Buffalo Soldiers if you haven't already Zakky, also a slightly trippy "behind the scenes" war film with it's own odd message. But then, I enjoyed Blood Diamond, and have been known to throw Tears of the Sun on the Bluray player in favour of Hotel Rwanda so my opinion may not count for too much
