My copy of PF came yesterday, unfortunately got back from work at 11.30 so didn't play. The weekend should be good though!

Landing on a Carrier takes practice, I am getting much better now though. Land about 1 in 5 rather than the 15 attempts it took me at first. I can see many a long mission only to come back and ballsup the landing. If in doubt wave off!!!!!

I never realised that on the WW2 place the arrestor hook wasn't long enough to catch shallow flare. You have to flare big time to catch the wires. Some of the american carriers have 2 sets. So if you bounce over the first set and you are brave enough to try for the second!

Aye, Japanese hooks are so much smaller. Think my record with the Val is 6 touch and goes before I snagged a wire.

I managed a good touchdown on my second attempt and thought this is easy. Next succesful landing was at least 10 attempts later. I was even thinginh of getting my liferaft carpetted and a drinks cabinet installed

Seafires have a sensible sized hook. That is what I did my first successful landing in. One of the american planes even gives you manual gear I-16 style to deal with!

It's a shame there are no LSO officers to help you on your glide path.

Have you watched the training track? I cannot believe how violent the landings are. They tell you the idea is to stall your plane over the wires, so you can get the nose up but continue decending.

Yeah, and that's nigh on impossible with no externals. They give the facility to open the canopy, why dont they allow you to move your head?

Also I confused "knots" with "kph" on the training track which didnt help when I tried it

I've found the best way is to be the last plane in to land, then shear your gear off on the arse of the carrier by skimming in at deck level. You stop real quick and dont need to go around at all.
