VEF Saturday night!

Theres a Sex in the City marathon on Saturday night so I'm free from 9pm onwards for VEF fun...

I can host now, so who's up for it???

Russ, the server won't vanish this time, VEF works differently.

For those that wish to know, VEF stands for Virtual Eastern Front. This is an online war with a timeline running through it, so the more advanced planes become available as thw war progresses. It's a real time dynamic campaign too, so the front changes according to how well players on either side do.

This is hardcore simming here chaps, so the realism is very high, the only game aid you get is the speedbar. Everything else is full real. To play you have to be registered with a squadron which in turn is registered. This is becuase of the online logging that takes place. It wouldnt be fair to shoot someone down to then find the score doesn't count as they weren't registered. Dak is yer man for getting set up, but you MUST fly under the [MA] tag in all VEF games after that.

And dont expect a kill straight off either, kills comes rare in this mode but are supposed to be incredibly satisfying... I wouldnt know having not hit a damn thing yet!

Games take time too, to set one up takes a little while and everyone likes to check their route etc etc so dont expect to be in the air within two minutes.

The best prep for this is to fly a couple of the single player missions on full real plus speedbar. Oh, and one more thing, its a cardinal SIN to just throttle up on take off.. dont forget you're in a queue or you'll take out yourself and your team mate as you motor into the back of him!

If Dak gets you sorted into the squadron it's best if you download teamspeak 2 for voice comms, which are pretty much essential.

i have team speak 2, but i prefer ventrillo, and have a dedciated server if u guys prefer that?

Good enough... the current one we've been using is no longer running I think, so that'd be cool. I think most MA have Ventrillo rather than TS2 anyways.

Cesium, you fly a lot? Not trying to put you off but VEF essentially flies on the hardest difficulty settings, you up for that?

I think I'd rather wait until I get my new stick for this, the old stick just isn't reliable enough for full real settings, it's far too wibbly-wobbly and loses it's trim for no apparent reason

The decision doesn't rest with me but with the CO or XO. Dak is out today but will be on laters. He's bound to check this thread so hang tight and see what happens!

IN the mean time, to warm you all up and just for fun I'm putting a d/f server up. I cant play right now, homey things to do liek make dinner, put kids to bed etc etc.

Settings will be padlock and map icons on, two options you WON'T get in VEF.

Lo chaps, checked out current squad and we are at are VEF quotor (or however you spell it) so no new registration atm. Welcome to come practise with us though chaps
