    Rome - Total Realism

    Hi All,
I'm a huge fan of Rome - Total War, a friend of mine mentioned something about a mod called Rome - Total Realism, which apparently addresses a load of inaccuracies etc... Has anyone tried this and is it any good?
Also, does anyone know when Barbarian Invasion is out in the UK?

I am running version 6.1 of the total realism mod and in my view it is created a far better and more polished game than the original rome total war retail release.

The number of changes to the game is huge - some of the highlights include a new larger map, many more varied and historically accurate units, far better ai - all in a very stable package - I have had no ctd's at all. Note there is a new version 6.2 just released which adds a few more features and fixes some stuff.

If you want to learn more about the mod you should visit their very professional website and associated forums see
    http://www.rometotalrealism.org/

I would not bother with barbarian invasion - save yourself £15 and install this mod instead - you won't regret it.

There seems to be 6.0 Gold out that replaces all the other versions. Might check this out looks great.

Oh yes on a similar topic, is it worth getting Barbarian Invasion and Viking Invasion for Medival?

Don't know about Barbarian Invasion but I agree that Total Realism is an AWESOME mod, perfectly stable, adds an incredible amount to the game.

Barbarian invasion is a bit rubbish in all honesty. There's a lot of decent cavalry and spear throwers in the game, but the objectives are weak and castles are much harder to take, so you just end up laying siege to them until the fall instead.

Also you start out without a city and a huge army, but the moment you take your first city, you lose your entire army as you have to start paying subsistence for them. Hence meaning that you cant plan to take multiple cities at the start of the game for strategic purposes.

If the game drops to budget prices (£9.99) then it's probably worth buying if you're a fan of the total war series. Just remember that the new game in the series isn't that far away now and the initial screenshots look absolutely blinding.

Barbarian Invasion seemed a bit of a write off to me..
However, if your boyfriend really enjoys playing these games..
I wouldn't say it's 'rubbish', but Sega seem to have tried to squeeze as much money out of as little as they can.

I've heard the Total Realism mod is awesome but i'm more of a Medieval 2 player now, and I broke my Rome disk long ago..

I'm not much of a fan of Total Realism, makes it to realistic. (unsurprisingly there) I enjoyed being able to end any battle I wanted to with a decisive cavalry charge.

    BEANFro Elite's system
I used to play the 5.1 version, I thought that was the best version even though it made the Romans simply unstoppable which in retrospect is quite realistic.

The Barbarian Invasions add-on is best left alone, its not all that, the Rome: Total Realism mod is easily better although the more recent versions have castrated the effectivity of the cavalry which put me off and made me revert back to the 5.1 version...then Medieval II: Total War came out...
