    Spec me a shed!

Ok, so slightly misleading title as I kind of know what I'm after but am getting confused by the hundreds of options, brands, types out there!

I'm knocking down a mahoosive 16ft x 12ft shed/garage, it was here when we moved in and is on its last legs.
I'm replacing it with an 8x6 and just want options.

Budget is fairly low at around £300 but I can't justify more, it gets worse when some firms seem to charge ridiculous delivery to anywhere North of Edinburgh even though they deliver free to England!

I'm looking for T&G, not sure if shiplap is worth the extra? Billyoh seem to be everywhere but not sure of their quality (better than what B&Q offer I'd imagine)
osb floor possibly not an issue as I've got plenty of slabs to use as a base so not sure of t&g is needed there?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Rob

Rob.. can you find a plastic one mate?

I've seen good one... great ones... with light diffusers in the roof, unrottable plastic, screwed togethger with mahhosive plastic thumb screws... doors that do'nt sag when wet and 5 years old.....

    How much is a Keter?

I'd heard bad things about keters now, it gets windy here so need it to stand up to a bit of abuse

    Re: Spec me a shed!

I bought one of these: http://www.shedsworld.co.uk/p/Winche..._Pent_Shed.htm

It isn't the best shed ever, but can't complain at the value.

I might have a go at changing the hinges and lock, currently all the screws are on the outside so 5 mins with a screwdriver and you can just take the door off. Now I don't put anything valuable in my shed, walking off with the screws is about as good as it gets for a criminal, but it seems sloppy and I expect I can fix it.

Edit to add: Now I said that, I have a vision of discovering all my junk sat on the patio and someone has stolen the shed

I was thinking this for £400 but it is way over your 300 squids budget

    Re: Spec me a shed!

My Dad and I built one (about 4m*3m) about 4 years ago using some 4x2, 2x1, lots of tongue and groove boarding and some roofing felt. As we had the materials on hand we put a concrete floor in, but that's entirely optional. Also had some spare plexi floating around that we used for a window.

A good tongue and groove (depending almost entirely on the wood) should be as good as shiplap. It just needs to not be too green and fixed down correctly.

Cost-wise it ran about €220 but certainly took 3 days + concreting to do a good job. So DIY could be an option if you have the time...

Zak - £400 for a 6x6 is a bit steep yes. I'd heard quality isnt what it used to be and that they're not the toughest.

Goobley - I've had enough of DIY in the garden, cleared it mostly myself and today had some people round to knock the old shed down! This is the current state of affairs, the far corner is where the old beast was!

I know the feeling... Personally I would avoid plastic as I've had bad experiences with it disintegrating in sunlight. Not that is the biggest problem in Scotland!

You've certainly been busy by the look of that garden.

Thats being offered up for free in the village at the moment, I'm sure people will take most of it off my hands! Few good boards and beams I'm keeping for planters though

    Re: Spec me a shed!

Is this going to be a common or garden shed for keeping tools in, or a SHED bwhere you can retreat, make a brew and put your feet up. I know yu said you had had enough of garden diy, but if you build a bespoke shed, with some decent insulation in the walls, floor and roof, it will be a good retreat, and if you run power to it, you'll be able tp run the fridge to keep your shed-load of beer cold - and have room for the wood burning stove!

It's really for storage mainly, the tumbler will be in there so i need to run power anyway. I'd love a retreat but don't think it's going to happen I'm afraid!

Still waiting for the wood pile to go down so i can clear the space for it.
