    Londoners

I'm hoping for a bit of info from Londoners on commuting. I've seen a few flats in Ilford on the Abbotts site and I'm wondering what the commute is like into the centre of London?I not used to commuting so just looking for some thoughts from current commuters. How do you find it? Cheers for any advice and tips.

    Re: Londoners

I think Ilford has a station with a direct line to Liverpool Street (overground) with a good/frequent service, alternatively you have the option of getting buses to place where you can travel by underground, East Ham, Barking and Upney are on the Hammersmith & City plus District lines and then Redbridge, Gants Hill and Newbury Park are on the Central line.

    Re: Londoners

I am in Enfield, North London. Near is tube Oakwood on the Piccadilly line, High Barnet on the Northern Line, Overground Enfield Chase and Enfield Town. Also two buses and your in central London.

House prices are high but not too mad. Even then places like Potters Bar and Hatfield have all gone up in price as well.

    Re: Londoners

I live in Barkingside, not far from Ilford station but it's on the central line, the tube ride is 30 minutes to Bank Station and my walk to the station is about 8 minutes.

But I rarely get the tube, I motorbike to work most days - thats 30 minutes door to door.

Ilford will see the benefits of crossrail whenever that is complete so it will make it very desirable.

2018 is the date for Crossrail, they are already planning a second one as it will be near saturation on opening.

Are you looking to be using the tube or the bus? Or just overall commuting?

    Re: Londoners

I don't live in London but make a habit of trying to stay in different parts of London when down on business to see a bit more of the city.

I must admit, I thought Ilford wasn't a particularly nice place. I got the train from Liverpool St to Ilford once at peak time and it was horrible. The walk through town as well was a bit scary.

I also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express near Newbury Park tube station as well a few times. I thought that was a bit better. Still not too sure about the area but the Central Line was considerably less packed than the train.

I do prefer the Central Line to the Northern Line, although for a commute the DLR is my personal favourite - even though it's slow it's never packed compared to a lot of the underground lines.

    Re: Londoners

dwh00t is correct - central line is pretty good, hence why I opted to live in Barkingside - I would strongly suggest you have a look as its a lovely area, much nicer than Ilford high street etc.
