I've done an 'ice cream' (that isn't, actually), in a (very heavy duty) blender. It's basically pistachios, banana, avocado, vanilla extract, and honey (or dates). I know, sounds weird, but you get the texture of ice cream from the banana and avocado, the colour from the avocado, and the pistachio flavour from, well, pistachios.

Might try that. Love avocados and pistachios so this might be the motivation I need to get a blender to park alongside my current fave gadget, the Tefal Fresh Express Max. Already been making 'rice' from cauliflower for a while since going paleo and it tastes better than the real thing - your suggestion above could well be an equivalent in the dessert section.

Re: Where can I find Pistachio Ice Cream?

Didn't realise how long ago this thread got started!
I haven't been checking out the gelateria in Leicester as I previously said I would - until just recently.
Am really a pub person, even hate going to coffee shops, going to an ice cream parlour/gelateria, on my own, rather than a pub is not really an option - but my partner is visiting and is stranded, due to being unable to drive back to Sussex, 'cos of some sort of wipe you out cold/flu virus - which I now seem to have acquired.
Anyway, we've forced ourselves to go out to do some gelateria - can only face ice cream or soup and I have had some amazing pistachio!
Brü on Granby does Royal Pistachio - I think that it has honey in it - delicious, but not pure pistachio.
Gelato Village in St Martins Square (the council street sign department can't afford apostrophes) - served me today with about the best pistachio i can remember. Plus, you can have up to three flavours, regardless of portion size, on a cone, or in a tub - pistachio; salted caramel and a chocolate amaretto (forget the proper Italian name) is a wonderful combi.
Tomorrow, legs willing, I will try out Whippee on Granby Street.

I love pistachio ice cream but I've not seen any for a while. We use to have a Italian ice cream van firm doing the rounds that sold all sorts of genuine Italian ice creams a few years ago.

I want pistachio ice cream now.

Re: Where can I find Pistachio Ice Cream?

you can home-make ice cream really easily with the right recipe, an electric whisk, a glass bowl and a freezer. The base is double cream + condensed milk, and you add stuff to flavour it as you need. Only downside (unless you beat it part-way during freezing like a sorbet) is that it needs a bit of softening time before you can get a spoon in to serve it. Otherwise, no problems and much nicer than mass-produced stuff.

Lemon geranium ice-cream. Heat the milk with a few lemon geranium leaves - makes a very subtle flavoured ice cream.

presumably lemon rose water would also work? Though perhaps more issue with diluting the mix...

Has anyone tried the pistachio magnums? I quite like them, but might not be what you are looking for.

The Everest Ice cream seems to have disappeared from Tesco & Sainsburys. No wonder I haven't had their amazing coconut or mango ice cream for a while!

I think this is another company which has gone belly up
