    Milk frother!

The frothers on the coffee machines all seem to be slow and built only for small amounts of milk......I would like to get a stand-alone frother so that I can be creating a decent volume while I am knocking expressos out on the main coffe machine....

I've had a look around and most seem to be small capacity (250ml).

Has anyone got any experience with and/or can recommend a bigger unit please? Ideally it would make micro foam as well

    Re: Milk frother!

What coffee machine are you using? Proper ones have 2 boilers and can steam at the same time as making coffee. Cheaper option would be to pickup a cheap baby gaggia or gaggia coffee and just use it for steam.

An aero latte does a reasonable job, but for proper foamed milk, there is nothing to beat a proper steam frother

    Re: Milk frother!

I looked, not so much at frothers but at bean to cup machines, a while back. Then I decided that what with the cost of good ones, and the experimentation and skill needed to get the best out of them, I was content with just going back to my £8 cafetiere, and drinking it black.

It's a Delonghi Magnifica (last years model) and must only have 1 boiler as it's coffee or steam. The wand also sits low, meaning you can only use a small to mid sized jug or else you start pouring the froth/milk out as you tip the jug to get it out from under the wand The wand is also very slow, it easily takes 2 minutes for the milk to reach the optimum froth temperature.....doing that 1 cup at a time is a slow process when you are creating 3+ cups......then I walk into a coffee shop and see them do a pint of milk in about 3 seconds - grrr

There isn't much needed. You basically have to fiddle with the grind level a bit to get it optimum for the beans you are using and then you need to get the knack of frothing which is very easy, all you need to do is keep the wand slightly below the meniscus of the milk and use a thermometer to let you know when you have reached the optimum temperature (I forget the temperature as I bought a thermometer with a highlighted "froth zone"). Then it's just a case of knocking out the larger bubbles by tapping/banging the jug on your work surface.
