According to the document, both the iPhone or iPhone 3G could temporarily stop working if the device exceeds normal operating temperatures, and users could be presented with a dim display, a weak mobile signal, the inability to charge, or the dreaded temperature warning screen

Does the warning screen disable all phone functions, what if you need to make an emergency call?

Look at the picture on the like the OP posted - there's a slider to enable the phone for emergency use.

I'm normally an apple hater but its good to see they actually thought this might happen and rather than ignore the problem and fry the internals it actually warns you about it.

D'oh, should have made myself clearer.

On Apple support page it notes, "When this message appears, the device may still be able to make emergency calls"

Lol an apple boast about how good their Iphone is when its overpriced basic (apart from touchscreen!) and now falls to the feet of heat. Anyone know what the max temps apple say the phone can take?

Surely this indicates poor build quality - you don't see Nokia, Samsung etc etc saying "keep it out of the heat".

Hicks: I remember reading max operating temp 35C and max storage temp 45C somewhere... which is a bit of a joke if you live anywhere moderately hot.

I love the way Apple in their ads try to make features other phones have had for years sound like some kind of massive innovation (I'm thinking the one with the guy in the ceiling filming it that touts the iPhones new video capability).

Finally Apple seems to have found a feature of the iPhone that isn't ubiquitous in mid range phones... they should make an app for it... iBurn.

Just checked their website and its 0-35C, now thats not great IMO as the renoir can survive being in a feezer for a few hours, driven over by ford and still work without a hitch(even in a water jug).
