Broadcom ships Blu-Ray & HD-DVD compatible decoder chip
Broadcom has announced it has begun shipping of its new BCM7411D HD A/V decoder chip. It's capable of decoding H.264, VC-1 (a standardised WMV9 variaiant), MPEG-2 HD and your more classic DVD MPEG-2 format. This doesn't necessarily mean we'll see high def players capable of reading both disc types, but it does mean that Broadcom has a decoder chip that supports both the new disc standards and so can be used in either type of player.
Get more info in Broadcom's press release. |
