M4A89GTD-Pro-usb3 Mobo and dual channel memory

Hi if you can ps help me here? I have the M4A89GTD-Pro-usb3 Mobo but cannot get my 8gb (2x4gb) CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 to run in dual channel mode, everytime i try and put the bios into DOCP i am getting bluescreens and restarts. I cant even set them at the 1600mhz. The only way i can run these sticks are on auto settings which run at the lower 1333mhz. PS note: Have tried sticks in the black slots as well as the blue ram slots as recomended by Asus book. Also i have nothing OC and everything is on default on the bios and timings are on the suggested 9-9-9-24 . I have also tried to run the same sticks but in the 2x2gb version, but same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if i was to run 2x2gb sticks and 2 x4gb sticks on all 4 dimms would there be any increase in performance rather than running just the 2x4gb? I ask this because i have just sent my old 4gb dual channel sticks back due to a bad stick but ive sinced upgraded to the 8gb set (all have same make and serial number CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 )

Re: M4A89GTD-Pro-usb3 Mobo and dual channel memory

Only thing I can think of is the voltage on fast memory can sometimes be higher than default to get those speeds, so check the recommended voltage for the sticks vs the bios memory voltage settings.

As for running all the dimms together, that gives the CPU more load to drive on the memory bus so can slow it down. Thats OK for people like me that run cheaper memory that is already at that speed, but if you have fast ram you need to decide whether you really need that extra 4GB of ram. Most people don't, but I know people that do.

Not sure what you mean about the dual channel mode not working. If you have 2 sticks and they are in different channels, the BIOS normally puts you into the preferred dual channel mode (think it's called "unbonded", but the one where the 2 channels act independently so they can sometimes service different cores). How do you know you are single channel?

Re: M4A89GTD-Pro-usb3 Mobo and dual channel memory

I have the non-USB3 version of that board and have been running it with the same memory modules 2x2GB you mention (in the slots closest to the CPU socket-blue), then later added the 2x4GB kit you mention (in the far slots-black). The only change I made to the BIOS was to type in the RAM timings and the voltages for the first set then when I added the second set I didn't do anything and it worked. YMMV of course. Have you typed in the voltages/checked the settings? I'll take a photo of mine if you would like?

^I think the term is Unganged, well, that's what my board tells me everytime I boot.

Unganged does sound right. Wasn't going to reboot an AMD machine just to check the name
