    2x 4GB or 4x 2GB?

I appreciate that this question has probably been asked hundreds of times before, but just a question that has been nagging at the back of my mind for a while. I won't specify any specific RAM modules, just generally which is faster?

I am not sure about either being faster but 2x4 would put less stress on the mem controller than having 4x2.

Well 2x4 should give you better overclocking so if you want faster this would be the better choice I would think,

2x4 would also give you more headroom in the future to add more RAM

    Re: 2x 4GB or 4x 2GB?

Most CPUs now have integrated memory controllers, having fewer modules helps the memory controllers run more efficiently and so when overclocking it is easier to achieve better results. On the other hand, four memory modules look better, but I would pick two and aim for performance, as I tend to look at my monitor when I'm playing games, not my ram slots.

lol thanks guys, seems pretty conclusive. I also looked around on other sites and they've said pretty much the same thing.

I had the same thought on my rig and decided that more mem is better for me as I have no idea how to OC memory so 4 x 2GB works for me.

All depends on what you plan to do.

    I'd go for 2x4GB.
    Less sticks = less problems.

Yeah generally best to go for 2x4 , was handy though when I had 4 sticks and 1 developed a fault. I had to send the pair back so I could still use the PC while they got shipped off.
