Help me with what memory to buy

Hi my son asked me to find out about upgrading his memory and I am lost with the latency speeds nowadays.

    He sent me the following

Amd phenom II quad core 3.4 ghz. I play world of tanks which is fine but if im playing eve i need 3-4 clients. If i run 3 im maxed out and if i open firefox it gives me the notification then crashes if i dont close it. Just now iv got 4gig ram at 1333.

So any help on which memory he needs to get ?

    Thanks

Re: Help me with what memory to buy

What kalniel is hinting at is that if your son is running a 32 bit version of any OS, then 4 GB is the max. I guess it's an AMD Phenon II 965 on socket AM3, which supports up to DDR3 1333 MHz. I'd go for a ValueRAM kit from Kingston, either 2x 4 GB (KVR13N9S8K2/8 or KVR16N11S8K2/8) or 2x 8 GB (KVR13N9K2/16 or KVR16N11K2/16). I've listed two kits for each size, where the first is DDR3 1333 MHz and the second is DDR3 1600 MHz. There won't be any performance improvements going with a DDR3 1600 MHz kit, but it might just be cheaper. Also, I advise against using modules which use a higher voltage than the standard 1.5V, as well as modules designated as DDR3L (L for low voltage). And personally, I tend to stay away from modules with heat spreaders. In my opinion they seem to have little to no effect and they obscure the make and model of the memory chips themselves.

Re: Help me with what memory to buy

    To help with choices:

    Kingston 12GB 1333MHZ DDR3 3x4GB for £21.01 < Excellent value

If you wouldn't mind to run memory modules with asynchronous capacity, the following single modules appears to be the cheapest (for now).

    Kingston ValueRAM 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory Module for £54.72

    Crucial 8GB DDR3 PC3-10600 for £55.17

    Crucial 8GB DDR3 240 Pin 1.5V PC3-12800 for £55.17
