XBOX 360 still sounds like a hoover?
Hi,
I've got one of these, it's over a year old, and the DVD drive sounds like a hoover. It's insanely loud. Does anyone know if the new 'falcon' models have a quieter drive? Is it possible to fit another (quieter) drive to the xbox? I don't care if it invalidates the warranty. |

You are never going to be able to get rid of the noise from an xbox 360. Even with an elite and no disk in the drive...it still makes lots of noise.
It's far too much hassle and not really worth it to replace the drive because the noise reduction isn't that significant to make it worth your while. |

I'd be interested to know how much quieter (in dB) a replacement disc drive is when compaired to either of mine. I'm not sure as I'd go for the "upgrade" though as it'd void the warranty. |
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

I've got one of the new ones with the cooler chipset and the quieter BenQ drive, and its pretty much silent in comparison to my housemate's old 360. It can still be noisy on seek, but the general noise level is a lot lower.

Re: XBOX 360 still sounds like a hoover?
Just bit the bullet yesterday and bought a 360
240 quid for Xbox premium + 2 wireless controllers + Viva Pinata, Forza 2, Halo 3 and PGR4. I was supposed to get a play and charge kit aswell but he charged me for that. It was some bundle deal from gamestop, not bad eh? Sound wise mine isn't too bad, don't really notice it when playing games. |

Re: XBOX 360 still sounds like a hoover?
I previously had my xbox next to my TV, and it was so noisey I had to turn the sound on the tv up alot. Now though, I moved it away from the tv so it's kind of behind me...much better. It's on my right side, where the headset goes, so I don't hear it at all =]. Although when I'm playing halo at 3am, I need to put the tv up really loud to hear it over the noise the xbox makes...and well, at 3am the neighbours don't like it
