PES 200. Laggy online play

I have a decent connection with no problems with ping etc. It is not shared and I have no other issues with it.

I find that the online PES 2008 play is laggy and the other players are jumping all over the place. Its impossible to actually defend becuase they are infront of you then all of a sudden behind you and gone.


Can a mod please add an 8 to the end of my title please?

lots of people have the same trouble with it. Thats a big reason why so many jumped to fifa this year. And to top it off seabass basically apologised for 2008 saying it was poor by their standards and then doesnt fix it!

I had a few problems with this game

The computer picks a strange player to pass to

it changes your player for no reason. You can be chasing the ball and then it changes to another player miles away. The player you where using to chase the ball (who is right next to the ball) just stands there and does nothing.

Keepers can either be super human or blind

All players seem to be as fast as each other (Torres, Messi, Henry are not much faster than Xavi etc)

Man City are rated the same as Liverpool!

it goes on and on.

Speaking of fifa 08 I think I'm going to have a heart attack if I keep playing it, it gets me so damn stressed. The AI is useless, it goes out of the way to hide behind the opposing team and the random player swtiching just when you are about to tackle someone drives me insane, and never ever runs towards passes regardless of what direction you're trying to get him to move, just stands looking at it blankly while it gets intercepted. And sometimes you really have to hammer the A button to get a pass off, but maybe that's just my controller.

In saying that I do enjoy it though anyone got it here and care for a match sometime? I'm not very good but it's good fun.

Was going to pick up PES2008 as I generally prefer the series but when I heard the online was hit and miss I went for fifa, it's not anywhere near as easy as the rest of the series.

other issues are the ref decisions. The offside rule is totaly wrong!

PES08 does have a lot of online issues. I gave up on using wireless, stuck a cable in and it's a lot better. Rarely have any 'teleporting' any more !

To me it's the players that spoil the online side. There's just a win at all costs mentality with some of the better players, and they don't actually play any form of football, they just set their formation up in such a way that they keep doing the same thing over and over again. Usually by playing as Barca and sticking Messi and Eto'o in the corners and then playing through balls down the wing. If you cut that out they just start trying to exploit some of the bugs in the game, basically cheating. Grrr.

Also, so many folk just hack you down any time you're through on goal, just to avoid a goal. If they lose a player they just go all-out defence... and keep hacking you down ! I won't even mention the famed 'cut-back' for fear of getting even more annoyed.

Also, as to why Konami thought it would be a good idea making "ha ha" one of the comments I'll never know. It's bad enough losing a crappy goal to one of these muppets, without it being followed by that !

FIFA is a lot better online IMO, as there's fewer ways to guarantee a goal. You have to be a bit more thoughtful in your play, you can't just keep playing through balls to fast players.

FIFA does seem a little too slow, and I hoped they'd make it a bit speedier in the 09 version. Won't need to wait that long as the Euro08 game demo is a good bit faster, and is probably the best next-gen footy game I've played. Hope the full game is as good, or even better.

In all seriousness, if you haven't downloaded the Euro 2008 demo, what are you reading this for, go download it... now. Seriously, go now ! NOW !

mate i was close to buying euro 08 but the thing is gta4 is just around teh corner euro is alot better then fifa 08

I have come across these players who just push their wide men right up and long ball it. The game has so many issues I would say it was almost unplayable online.

Thing is, there's a few folk on there who play fair. It's just hard to track them down !

The best time for playing it online (in my experience anyway) is late'o'clock. All the brats are in bed, so there's fewer childish muppets. Also the servers are quieter so the games run more smoothly.

Quite often I've went on, found a decent opponent, then just played several games against the same person. Doesn't matter if they're a lot better than me (common!), as long as they play in something resembling a sporting manner it's still enjoyable.

Quite often I've played folk at that time of night, and they've gone out of their way to play fair. Notably when the only option open to them is a cut-back, which has just occurred though normal play, and they don't use it.

What is frustrating, is playing someone new, giving them the benefit of the doubt, trying to avoid cut-backs and the like, and they score using one of the bugs and the "ha ha" starts.

I was 4-0 down to some brat, and he gave it "ha ha" all the way through. Then I got a couple of goals back, and he panicked, started hacking my players down. He got a couple of men sent off and I ended up beating him 5-4. He then apologised about 50 times. Bizarre.

I have only lost two games. One because the lag was so bad his players would be at the half way line then in the area then on the wing. I thought I was going to have a fit watching it!

The other I lost to a long ball to the corners guy, so its not as if I am ranting when I talk about these issues. Its a shame prople play the way they do a d its a shame the game is such a mess. Add me if you want a game, I play fair.

thing is try not to play players from abroad thats the key to higher pings on any game football games are the most net heavy thats why online football games only been around for a few years compared to FPS and other games.

I tend to mostly play 5v5 online and have joined a league for it. If you get a good team with unselfish players it really is about as good as online football gets.

Does anyone also notice it seems to pick strange people to pass to?

You try and get your player to pass down the wing but it passes through the middle to a player marked by about 5 other players..

Also you take a free kick, it hits the wall bounces back but the player who took the free kick just refuses to move and watches the ball roll by him

What a mess.... Really poor.
