    Rock Band/GH4 + others - Hardware Query

Am I reading all the information wrong, or are the hardware kits designed for these types games not going to be compatible with each other?

From what i've read heard that is sadly the case. Harmonix are happy for kit to be compatible but Activision aren't happy with that idea.

It seems to be all over the place and i've no doubt that it's a licensing issue more than a technical one.
That said over the weekend i played Guitar Hero & Guitar Hero 3 on the PS2, we had one Guitar from each game and both guitars worked with both games (one wireless, one wired).
    It was great fun.

But i read that even within different GH games (Rock Band aside) not all is rosey.

System as shown, plus: Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. Griffin Powermate that pulsates blue!
Diamondback Razor. Logitech media keyboard. Netgear MP115.

    Hmmm... it's a farce - that's what it is.

So now GH4 is coming out with drums, lead and bass guitars and Mic and if you've got the rock band hardware it's a case of tough luck, you need to go and get the GH4 hardware kit in order to use the game to it's full advantage.

Shocking - it's just like bringing a gaming keyboard out for the PC and making it only work with CS Source and not any other FPS. Can you imagine the uproar from the gaming community if they did what I've stated above? You'd have page, after page of complaints about it, but it appears because this is a console game - it's okay to do this.

What a way to treat your customers huh?

The drums for GH4 are different to rock band, so wouldnt work regardless.

Well red octane and harmonix are owned by different companies now, but your right that the bickering between themselves has screwed over the customer. Guitar interoperability would be awesome but as said above the GH4 drum kit is different to the one supplied with rock band. Lets hope there isnt a plastic foot pedel with GH 4!

Ahh well I've bitten the bullet and the hardware kit for Rock Band is now all mine, mine, mine

I'm going to rig the xbox phono outputs to the sound system in the front room night and rock it out till the early hours.

First things first though... Oasis downloadable content is definately (maybe..heh) needed

I want to see your review and experience.
You got an Xbox or PS3?
I'm on a Wii, which is great, but no downloadable content seemingly (which i think is rubbish as it's easy to add a 2 Gig SD card or similar)

No Worries - I'll report back once I've sung my throat into a worse state than it is already

I've got it for the xbox 360 - only because more of my mates have this and as such I can cart the game round left, right and centre and play at others houses.

    Right....

it's now nearly 10 and after 2 hours pf gameplay I can safely say this is ABSOLUTELY BLOODY BRILLIANT.

Guitar - We all know this from GH3 etc, but it's damn good, easy to pick up and hard to master

Drums - Oh my lord, I'm in my element here. Hitting 85-98% on easy on most songs at the moment, 60-70% on medium. It's the most fun I've had on my console for YEARS !!!!! The only thing more fun than this is probably a hardcore horizontal jogging marathon

Singing - Oh yes... Karaoke - pure and simple - Great fun and if you don't know the words, simply laaaa-laaaa-laaaa in the tones along to the song to get the points

Righty... im off to do Rock and Roll Star for the 100th time tonight.

The only downside is the fact you need a controller connected for the USB mic to work - which windows detects as a Logitech when you plug it into a USB port

Oh how I wish I could justify the £60-70 for the drums!

Loving the guitar+microphone multiplayer though (don't think I've played anything quite as fun with friends).

A bit rubbish that you can't use the Rock Band guitar for GH, I read that was down to Activision not allowing it. The GH4 drums are apparantly pressure sensitive and therefore won't be compatible with any other games, and will most likely break within two days of purchase.

I rented Rock Band from lovefilm the other week, with me and the girlfriend taking turns singing and playing (my GH wireless) guitar. It's a lot of fun, but the guitar bits are a lot easier than on GH3. The singing is a laugh, even if I repeatedly failed on normal. It's the Xbox headset mic's fault, I tell ya.
