How much of an improvement CRT >> LCD/Plasma

Hiya foks, just bought myself a 360 and some recent games (condemned 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 etc.) and have to say I am blown away by the quality of the graphics, the thing is I am only using a 28" JVC CRT at the moment - how big an improvement would a 32" LCD HD TV make over this CRT as I know a lot of LCD are actually a big step back when it comes to SD viewing (I don't have any HD sources apart from the 360) ... of course I could also go for a 37" Panasonic Plasma.

So any thoughts please, is it a necessity to play some games??

a 360 in SD mode is barely distinguishable from an original xbox (e.g. compare halo 2 and halo 3)

HD makes it a completely different ball game, visually.

Blimey - I your blown away with the graphics whilst playing on a fish bowl - your gonna go crazy when you set up the Xbox at 1080p for the first time, stand back and .... admire!!! It's a whole different league!

Re: How much of an improvement CRT >> LCD/Plasma

Well I was blown away ... maybe I am just easily pleased. If I was getting a 32" LCD it would only be 1080i which I belive looks naff (on the 360) and would be better setting it at just 720p is that correct??
So how much better on a 32" LCD 720p Samsung would these games look ... or is it not even worth starting on them until my shiny new TV turns up??

I upgraded from a 21" CRT to a 32" HD LCD just a week ago
Trust me, it looks a LOT better. Even games with slightly ageing graphics like half life 2 look better when they are shown into glorious high definition
For the record I got a TV

1080i doesnt look mnaff on the 360.

i used a crt for quite some time with my 360 and some games still looked pretty good but it isnt much of a step up from the older generation, once i got an lcd its like playing a new game seriously its so much better!!

I don't have HD TV yet

However, my m8s have. One has a 26" Bravia and the other has a 40" 5th Gen Samsung. On either the HD visuals of the X360 are stunning.

You can read the text on game. One screen maps (like the one in GTA IV) become crystal clear.

It's like playing a game on your PC at 640x480 res on a CRT then getting a nice spangly 24" widescreen LCD monitor and playing the same games at 1920x1080.

    Now it makes sense
