Red ring of death - RMA times?

Hi all,

Got the dreaded red ring of death last night whilst playing COD4 - gutted.... Not rang MS yet, any ideas how long it takes to get a replacement in the real world?

Also - will they still repair it even if more than 12 months old?

turnaround is usually less than 2 weeks.
All xbox consoles have been warranty extended to account for the RROD troubles

No need to ring them any more, you can organise the return through the xbox website.

As Steve said, all 360's have a 3 year warranty covering the RROD.

Well, I rang them and as my PSU light is Orange they reckon it's a faulty PSU, so sending another one out to me.

I just got one replaced by them.. To my horror it again showed the Red ring while playing a HD DVD.

I kept if off for a few minutes and now I can play games fine again. Haven't got the courage to play HD DVD s any more. Playing them through my PC

Sounds ominous I'm afraid.

My mates console displayed the same symptoms over the last weekend and early this week on Monday while we were playing a DVD within the xbox and not the HD-DVD drive the screen corrupted and upon a power cycle it displayed 3 red lights.

I had 4 RROD single occasions over a period of 4 months before mine finally gave up the ghost.

my brother in laws xbox 360 is on its way out. he gets read errors on disks nearly every night. and has had the red rings once.

hes hoping it will die with the red ring to get it replaced.

it has been used very day for the last couple of years. and when its not used for games it been a media centre extender

Well, they sent me a new PSU - that also goes orange and still get RRoD!!!

I thought the PSU was always orange unless it was powering the console, then it's green?

Sorry, meant all the time, regardless of whether plugged in and turned on or not. Still red rings with new PSU too.

Sorry, we are getting confused

I was wondering why they asked about the PSU, the console does not power up with RROD right? I know it does with other errors and then displays the error message on the screen, maybe they could tell if it was a faulty PSU with one of those, but I can't see how they can tell with the RROD.

Unless the xbox powers up, the light on the PSU will always be orange. Does that make any sense? It does in my head

Give them a ring again and let us know what happens.

Guy I work with had a 360 that "fell off the back of a lorry"........unrelated to the lorry incident it developed the red ring o' death and he didn't want to RMA it.

He sent off for a supposed repair kit. It consisted of some instructions, some screws (or bolts, I forget exactly which but he had to swap the ones holding the heatsink in place with these replacements) and some paste that sounded familiarly like arctic silver....

He followed the instructions and resurrected his 360 in about 30-45 mins, it has been going strong since around xmas when he did the work.

Personally, I'd use the RMA service (as I have already done twice!), I was shocked at the speed in which they turned it around.

When I power up the xbox it red rings but is powered up if you get what I mean. The helpdesk took me through this and reckon it's one of their troubleshooting guides, so they sent the new PSU out.

Tried calling them to arrange console repair and their helpdesk software was down! Doesn't give much confidence!
