Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
![]() Who's already played it, and how is it? I'm going to give it a whirl this evening, looking forward to seeing what the new game modes have in store. We've got to have a competition to see who here can get the highest score. ![]() |

Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
Purchased this morning and just had a few hours on it cos im off work with a broken elbow. Fortunately i can still use the 360 controller.
Initially the extra game modes are locked, the only available one being Deadline. It's easy to unlock the other so no complaints there then. I'd like to mention the music in Deadline mode. In Deadline you get 3 minute and unlimited lives, the music gradually gets louder and louder as the Deadline approaches. If you lose a life, it pause briefly and restarts like someone has suddenly stopped a vinyl record on a turntable and lifted the finger, superb! Strangely, the mode which has me hooked is Pacifism, which is strange because this mode seemed the least interesting one to me. Waves is probably my least fave at the moment because i'm so carp at it but i will persevere. King i also love, the idea being you can only fire when you are in these rings/zones. When you enter one, it slowly diminishes so you have to hop to another one so you can fire again. Graphically it's been tweaked, not many complaints but i don't like the curved effect the score has ingame, minor, but it's not for me. Also you only have the single weapon, the fast fire one from GW:RE, a 3 shot slight spread version. The green enemies who dodge your fire in the first one have been tweaked, they move alot quicker! Arghhh, i hated 'em then and even more so now! All in all, I do like it very much. Multi player is where this game will win, must get a crate in and gets the lads/lasses round sometime. However, it's NOT multiplayer on Live which is a bummer imo ![]() Samcross, if you like retro shooters like asteroids on steroids you WILL be addicted. Try it out, there's the demo! Appologies for spelling mistakes cos i just hammered this out as quick as i could ![]() Cheers all ![]() |

Whoa, what's the point of that i hear you say, no firing in a shoot 'em up! The idea is, you destroy enemies by flying through gates. The snag is, when you fly through them they explode with a limited radius, killing only nearby enemies ![]() I feel the neon effect spoils it somewhat though. If you imagine a solid pixel with a 3-4 pixel blur around it, it has the effect of playing the game through fogged up glasses. I don't like this at all, though it does give it a kind of seaside/retro appearence. And just to add, in "Evolved" i don't like the delta enemies from waves that sweep from left to right and up or down. It's hard enough without these, but i guess that just shows my lack of skill Be interesting to hear other opinions. |

Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
yeah the sweepers are a git! Always pop up unexpectedly, it is harder to survive in evolved than the last for sure. How annoying are those dumbells in pacifism when they turn and form a T or X. Theres no turning back! Bosh.
The last mode is really tough. I have made it 4 from the last stage so far, but daamn it plays a bit different to geo wars1 evolved. the greenies seem different now, when I herd them into the sides and try and blast thro them they seem to survive and bump into me. All in All top game! Multiplayer review tba ![]() |

Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
I downloaded this last night whilst bored and am loving it so far. Nothing better than a frantic thrash when the missus is out of the room
and this fits the bill perfectly. It's a little easer to score since the multiplier is no longer reset should you die and feels a lot more accessible I guess. I like the way that Bizzarre locked the new modes, forcing you to play a little of each, that was a good idea. It only took 30 mins to unlock them all. |

Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
absolutely loving it so far, a couple of my mates were on at the same time and breaking their top score only to find out they bettered it on their next go is both funny and frustrating.
One of the best games from arcade ever. i was so proud of my 21 million in pacifism but that has quickly been bettered repeatedly and knocked out the top 1000 by now i would guess |

Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
I finally got round to giving it a go the other day and it's ace! Haven't had time to get really involved and try out all the modes, but some of the new enemies are very good.
I particularly like how it shows the high-score of the next best player on your friends list in the top right corner, gives you something to aim for. ![]() |
