Thumbs down Nokia Pc suit and the rest!!

    Morning,

Was fiddeling around with some nokia stuff on my pc and it came up with i should update my OS on my phone...

i was like ok kool so backed up all my files using the nokia pc suit backup thing and backed the folders up myself as well knowing tht if anything goes wrong with the backup it will be pretty hard to get my stuff back

the back up went ok but all my Txt's + email acounts and message centre numbers have been wiped!!

i backed up all the txts individually just in case (over 5000)
assuming tht i would be able to just drag and drop them back in through PC suit but NO!

Does anyone know of any other way of getting my txts back on my phone...??

Excuse the spelling but it is abit late..

im off to bed will check in the morning!

    Thanks

O by the way its a Nokia N80!

I didn't have much luck updating my N80 either. In fact the phone switched off half way through and its now dead. Doesn't power up or anything. Still got to send it away to get fixed.

Hope you get it sorted out.

What OS are you running on?
What network is the phone on?
What version of PC Suite are you running?
Can you browse your texts on your PC?
    USB, Bluetooth or serial connection?
Running any background programs at the same time?

I have found the nokia PC Suite to be great software, backed up and restored my N73 many times as its been off to be repaired by three.but you have to be careful with it.

I've found that you NEED to be running XP with SP2 otherwise it tends to be a little unstable - and if you are running vista you are just asking for trouble when it comes to the PC Suite.

If you did a full backup it should backup everything - photos, texts, settings and then restore them all when you do a restore.

There are reasons that it could fail though - Either a problem during the backup or restore (loose cable, dodgy USB port, dodgy background app like anti virus), or if you have upgraded the phones software the new Texting application might not be compatable with the old messages -rare but this does happen (especially if you have done a big update - say from a Rev 2.xxx to Rev 3.xxx).

If you go into a nokia service centre they should be able to help you out. If you purchased the phone within the last year i think all nokia's now have a 24 month warranty.
