Bluetooth GPS, Google maps vs dedicated system?

I have an ageing w850i but it might just last me another year. Anyone happen to know of any decent (both in price and quality) GPS units that bluetooth to SE phones and can link up with google maps?

...or would I be better off forking out for an N95, XDA Orbit, Kaiser, etc...just seems rather dearer!

The Kaiser is around £100 on a £25 month contract including data on T-mob, some have been getting them for £70 in shop. The sat nav software will be extra, but it also runs google maps.

You will be able to get the Nokia 6110 Navigator on a £30 per month contract on Vodafone. You don't have to pay for the SatNav on this phone either. It uses Route 66 maps and is pretty acurate.

It tracks your progress as a dot on the map, however, it doesnt do route planning, so would probably be pretty horrible for general use. If you only want it for the gps, and are happy to buy a new phone, get a tomtom.

If youre desparate for a phone with GPS get something with a decent sized screen, the one on my TyTN is a bit on the small side for the isometric map kind of view, which is by far the most useful imo

really I thought it'd just be a useful thing to have every now and then (the GPS). I am quite happy with my w850 and it'll be unlocked soon. I was thinking about using one of the e2save deals for 12 months free via chequeback on o2 then add thew £7.50 data bolt-on. Don't necessarily need my phone to tell me to turn left in 100m but a map with "you-are-lost-here" would be nice

Some level of navigation would be nice but I'm sure I'd get by with google maps route finding coupled with a GPS locator!

I see there's a SE plug-in GPS unit - anyone used it at all, or is generic manufacturer bluetooth a better bet for convenience/price ?

The advantage of having a GPS unit connected to the Fastport connector has the advantage of not needing charged. also less likely to get lost.

On the other hand, it can only be used with SE phones

I have just installed yahoo go alongside tomtom on my kaiser, have to say yahoo go is suprisingly good. Only thing that stops me using it instead of TT is what happens if you lose reception? It similar to google eart and offers maps, aerial photos, navigation, and some form of traffic warning (might not be UK).

It depends on how much data is cached i guess.

Ive been messing about with various sat-nav stuff on my N95.. Google maps is good for "showing off" to your mates with the sattelite view(latest version supports the N95 internal GPS) previously ive used TT6 with an external GPS for nav, but the latest N95 firmware with A-GPS and the latest nokia maps is suprisingly good once you learn your way round the basics... best part is ive bought 30day Navigation licence to mess with.. £5.80! Bargain!

Ive started using it instead of TomTom and tbh probably wont go back to TT after this.
