Question [nokia 6300] Not enough memory error msg when opening some jpgs

    Hey guys,
I was copying over a bunch of JPG files to my 1gb SD card on my phone, and as I went through them via the phone to see how they turned out, I ran into a problem. I opened a 1.6mb image, viewed full size, was fine....then I opened a 189kb image and it gave me the "Not enough memory" error and didn't open the picture.

Now a quick google said that it could be to do with the fact there isn't enough free internal mem (but there is) or the firmware, but I could open a 1.6mb image right before that one! So I fail to see how its a firmware issue. (firmware is v5 - latest is 5.5 I believe)

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Clear out some of your text messages from the sentbox and drafts and anything else on there that is just cluttering up space. The phone needs the internal memory to open up images. Unfortunately the 6300 doesn't have much space. You should have a 128Mb memory card in there as it comes with the phone so you could also try shifting some files over to the card.

If you have received any music via bluetooth I have found that to be quite a common problem. Make sure the music is saved on the mem card and delete it from the inbox.

yup like has been said above, buy yourself a massive mem card, they are cheap as chips and move everything from the phone memory to the mermory card and i mean everythign possible to be moved. i have nothing saved on my phone memory adn runs so much smoother...

Don't forget that memory and ram are different things, but most mobile phones use the same word for each (since ram is memory technically).

Simplest way to test the theory would be to reboot the phone, which will clear anything store in the ram that shouldnt be (like the 1.6mb picture for example, which may be cached) and then try again.

Depends on how the system allocates memory to the screen area - and if there's a preset limitation on this ...

I do have a mem card. A 1gb micro SD card. And I have copied all received files and other such to the mem card and it still does it.
I also cleared out a bunch of inbox and outbox texts to no avail

I dont get why its allowing me to view the 1.6mb pic, then not allowing to view a silly 180kb pic!

I believe I have figured out the problem.
The issue is with the save method of the picture.
If the picture format was saved in progressive, then thats where it causes issues.

I used a picture that I didn't work at all. I opened it up in photoshop, resized it, and saved it in 2 methods, one with progressive, the other with Baseline "standard". The standard one opened, the progressive didn't.

    I'm happy for now

I didn't see this thread when you posted it, but thats what i would have suggested if i had seen it. I've seen other devices and some windows software bork on Progressive JPEGs

Glad you got it sorted mate.
