Query on porting number to Orange
So, I just got offered a great deal for a contract on Orange, (it really pays to keep those payg sims in regular use). However I was just wondering what their policy is on porting a number over to their network when starting up a contract. I have a three contract ending at the end of January, and would like to port this number over. I understand that I can't do this until my contract ends, however would orange allow me to change my number over one month into a contract, or does it need to be done at the point of setting up all my details for the contract?
Much thanks for anyone who could shed some light on the isse. |

Re: Query on porting number to Orange
AFAIK, you should have no trouble porting your number at any point during your Orange contract. There is no need to wait for a month, request your PAC number from three and pass this information to Orange. The whole process can take around 10 days so call three and ask for the PAC.
Anyway good for you that you managed to get a good deal from Orange. I was not so lucky when my contract finished in November! Had to be a little creative to keep the same number on Orange. Transferred my existing number to Virgin pay as u go . Signed up for a new 12 month cashback with e2save on Orange. One week later asked Virgin for the PAC and took my original number back to Orange on the new contract!! ![]()

Re: Query on porting number to Orange
but to be safe, ring up orange, or email them, and check if you will be able to port a number a month after starting the contract. Get them to say yes, shouldn't be a problem sir and you then have something to fall back on if it all goes horribly wrong. Records are useful for arguements!

Re: Query on porting number to Orange
I'd check with Orange first to see if they can pull a number over after a contract has started. With Vodafone you have to put the PAC number in when you are setting it all up and can't migrate a number across afterwards.
Also good luck getting your PAC number from 3. They are the hardest network to get it from, just keep requesting it and tell them you arn't interested when hey call up trying to retain you as a customer. |

Re: Query on porting number to Orange
Just to update everyone, Orange say that you have 3 months from the start of a contract to port a number over.

Re: Query on porting number to Orange
i was on orange payg and decided to get a contract with o2 and wanted to port my number across, i already had the phone and was a week into my contract before my number ported across so it shouldnt be a problem assuming all networks work in roughly the same manner

Re: Query on porting number to Orange
Yeah, a week is normal for the port over on any network. Ofcom are trying to get it reduced to 2 hours by the end of 2009.
With Vodafone you have to bring the PAC number into store when you are setting up the new connection initially. You can't set the contract up with a new number and then port in after that. I know you can still do it on other networks however where a temporary number is assigned until you have the PAC and can port in. |
