How angry should I be ready to get?

The eldest just came down and said she wanted to set a PIN lock on her phone as all her friends did. I told her no as I knew she'd forget it.

Anyhoo, ten minutes later she's back downstairs with her phone asking for a PUK code... seems she HAD managed to set a PIN and has now entered it wrongly, locking the sodding phone.

Other than going to Carphone Warehouse or similar, is there anyway I can unblock the damn thing? I've no idea how many times she's already entered the code or something into the PUK window but I know that there's a limit of ten before the phone is perma-blocked.

Any help appreciated... either with the phone or with the disposal of the body of a 12 year old who won't bloody listen.

What network is she on? They can do it remotely, Orange did it for free when my dear mates tried to get into my phone (age 12 that was the coolest thing they could think of).

Haven't since had to do it, as I can remember my PIN

Call T-Mobile and ask for the PUK code... Then write it down and keep it safe

Re: How angry should I be ready to get?

Tried calling T-Mobile... apparently there's a password on the account, no idea who set it or what it is... so we're screwed.

Annoyingly, I have used my debit card to top up the damn phone but I don't remember ever setting, or being asked, for a password.

heh, reminds me of when my eldest reset the language on her phone to something random like turkish. Ask Ferral, he knows all things mobile related.

You can usually get around the password by telling them your postcode/dob/payment method or something similar. Just say you have forgotten it, they should still help you!

I couldn't remember my O2 password so they just asked me my account and sort code for the direct debit and the aproximate value of my last bill.

Re: How angry should I be ready to get?

Have you still got the box for the phone? Moreso the little pack with the credit card sized bit of the sim card?

Within said pack or on other bigger bit of the sim card you will find the PUK code. If not there are a few different ways to go about it. Firstly don't bother with Carphone, go directly to T Mobile store and sort it out there, literally takes minutes.

Secondly you could ask for a replacement sim card which will not have any of the pin codes and you will be able to just put it in and it will have the same number.

DPA in the stores should be easier as they should ask for address and DOB etc..

Mind you the call center should ask you alternative DPA questions also if you can't remember the password. Things like when did you last top up, make a call and so on.

Re: How angry should I be ready to get?

    It's all sorted now.

I ended up doing DPA stuff with an extremely helpful guy at T-Mobile called Mac, who verified who I was and then gave me the PUK number, even talking me through the phone's menu so I could turn off the PIN SIM card request.

As it ends up, the eldest got so much money for her birthday that she bought herself a new phone and SIM anyway... ah well, at least her old one was unlocked to pull all her contacts off of it.

If anyone's interested she's got herself a Motorola U9 which I have to admit, despite the pink case, looks really funky with the outer case and its opaque display and touch sensitive music controls.

Re: How angry should I be ready to get?

For future reference, you can normally get the PUK code from the operators website. I've done it before for my sister and she was on T-Mobile. Their site doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment but as far I remember you just go to:
Locked or blocked phones Help - T-Mobile UK

It then tells you how to get it.

    Your Angry...

try having an N95 with a load of applications you want to install but because the symbian signing certificate website is down I cannot sign the SIS files I have, therfore they will not install.

Apparently it's been down for months now and theres no light at the end of the tunnel.

So here I am with a Wi-fi enabled phone without the ability to install IRC and a list of useful tools I WILL USE.

but Lee, the N95 is a pile of poo anyway.

Compare the HTC/GloFiish offerings GPS accuracy to the n95, its frankly awful, that was the big feature that made me want one too!
