    K850 Keyboard issues

    Hi,

I received a k850 o Vodafone yesterday and noticed that when I scroll down or press certain buttons, it sees that as a tap on the central touch sensitive menu item at the bottom of the screen. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how do i fix it?

Would a de-brand from DaVinci or such solve the issue? My mate's got a k850 sim-free which doesn't seem to have this problem.

Sounds like a fault, I remember reading about some on Esato where this happens.

I would highly recommend you debrand the replacement though... I've had mine on Voda since launch day (more or less) and had recently dismissed the phone as being slow and a pain to use. But, debranded it a week ago and it's like a totally new phone! Fast, responsive, a joy to use!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you de-brand it and how much did it cost?

    Re: K850 Keyboard issues

There are known issues with the W910, V640I and also the K850I on all the networks that have them. Have a nasty habit of showing operation failed on certain menu functions.

Personally I would suggest going onto the Erricsson site and downloading the software update tool, update the software on the phone to the latest version (released about a week ago) and that should clear up any problems you are encountering.

With these 3 phones they tend to crash if you put on custom / downloaded screensavers and backgrounds. It is really easy updating the software and a lot quicker than taking it into one of our stores and having it sent away to get the software updated.

You can also get the update from the Vodafone UK site in the support section. Bear in mind if you do decide to debrand the phone you will void its warranty and if you have to take it in for repair you will be charged £40 for it as our repair center will not touch it otherwise.

I did the update thing, it said i had the latest software, but i refreshed it anyway, and the problem still occurs.

I haven't put anything custom onto the phone, I only got it on Tuesday, and the problem isn't with the operation failed thing, which i did get with the 2 w910s I had previously. This error is that frequently, the touch sensitive centre button registers a touch when you're pressing one of the numeric buttons. You may say it's fat fingers but when i'm pressing the 8 key, it registers a press of the centre touch key, when no part of me is anywhere near the sensor.

I think best way to do it is go back into the store where you got it and get a replacement, we have a 14 day refund exchange policy. If you got it over the phone just get back in touch and they will do a doorstep swap over for you.

It sounds from what you are saying that it may be more than a software fault, pressing the 8 key and the center button registering is pretty strange.

Heres the link on the Vodafone site for the software :

Thanks Ferral, I've been onto Voda and they're sending out a swap tomorrow.

Looks like it's back to the w900 for a day...

Its better to do it that way and get i sorted properly instead of messing about with it and possibly causing more trouble than what you are already having.

Must admit havn't had that many K850I back in for repair, pretty reliable handsets in general. Its literally just silly errors with the software that a master reset sorts out straight away. Other than that its been sending them off for the software updates.

I used Davinci, worked out at about £7.50. I wouldn't worry too much about warranty issues, if it develops a minor fault then just re-flash the phone back to a VF firmware release before sending it for repair.

You always have the option of sending it to an SE repair centre anyway.

Have a look on Esato in the forums, lots of useful information including other peoples experiences with this particular fault, as well as info about de-branding

Right, got the replacement 850 through, and the keyboard seems to be behaving itself. Only bugbear was that i was promised delivery on Monday, but on ringing Monday lunchtime, Voda had no record of the order being made. Flippin' call centres...

Anyway, I'm fairly pleased with it so far, a good solid phone with a nice, well-built feel.
