Dutty puts WinMob 6.1 on the Kaiser

Windows Mobile 6.1 might not even be official yet, but Dutty has cooked a ROM for the Kaiser (TyTN II, MDA Vario III, etc) with one of the many 6.1 builds floating about.

It supports newer radio ROMs too (in face the 1.61.xx series don't work with WinMob6). performance of the Kaiser has increased some what over Dutty's previous ROMS and the increase should be fairly significant over the standard operators ROMs. I've never changed my Radio ROM before, so i'm expecting (or at least hoping for) quite an improvement. The camera is supposed to be quite a bit better.

I'll not post a link, but you can find everything on XDA-Developers.com

I've not tried it yet, I'll need to wait until I get home.

Have been flashing WM phones since my universal, no probs so far. Problem with the popular phones is then number of cooked ROMS available to choose from, I tend to go for the smaller ones and add the software I want.

And also there is no good documentation anywhere really. It's nice that you've got choice, but a little convegence would be great (a la linux?). I.e. create a 'base' platform and then people can install that and edit / build it collaboratively, but also enable people to make their own releases based upon a certain build.

Does that make sense? Or is it completely impractical and nonsensical?

    Downloading Dutty's rom now.

The ROMS all use the same OS, they differ in extra software and tweaks. If you like a feature of one ROM, you can generally install it to another

Yea I see what you mean, though what I meant was that various tweaks and performance improvements are probably fairly fundamental (or should be) and if all the community used the same ones it would probably help speed development of better roms along. Just a thought though. I used to be in the OFPEC community and standardisation started becoming pretty important. The game was the same - but everyone wanted to make their own mods and it created a lot of unnecessary extra work. By creating accepted and standard fundamental mods (ammunition, cars, etc.) it prevented 50 remakes of the same thing with scattered support, and instead one really good thing.

I think I had a point but may have wandered off it a little bit now I'm going to check out Dutty's new rom.

Dutty's ROMs tend to focus on features rather than performance, he bundles pretty much all the HTC apps.

There are others that are stripped down to the bare minimum and go for speed and maximum available RAM.

Persoanlly I like the fully featured ones because I don't run anything unusual that needs all the memory it can get. The only two aditional apps I can think of I use over and above the Dutty ROM are PocketCM and Google Mobile maps.

talking of maps Funkstar, you use google maps, or live maps?

I've found the live maps to be much better in london!

The yahoo go thing is worth a look, similar to the others but uses a more modular design with widgets. You get all the map stuff along with yahoo email, flickr, etc.

Only tried Google maps. I'll take a look at live maps when i'm down at the end of the week. thanks

I'm actually waiting for the guy that wrote Google Navigator to release a Kaiser friendly version. It takes the google map and earth data and creats turn by turn maps for you. It incorporates the 3D elements from Earth. Looks really good, but hangs the Kaiser before you can do anything.

    Nice one, thanks Dreaming.

    /goes to look....

EDIT: looks to be a good bit faster. Really looking forward to flashing mine tonight. I've never changed the radio ROM, so hoping for a big change in performance etc.

Re: Dutty puts WinMob 6.1 on the Kaiser

Flashed the Dutty ROM and a new radio.

Not done any real playing around yet, but have noticed a few things.

PocketCM doesn't like it at all. I'll need to go on their forums and see what the score is. Real shame cos i really like it as a messaging app.

I can't find the program that changes the tw soft buttons at the bottom of the screen. Not a huge problem while PocketCM is playing up, but would be good to change them anyway.

The advanced config application is brilliant, there are loads of system settings in there to play around with.

What Radio ROM did you use? Have just downloaded Duttys new ROM now, but need to check if the one I have (1.27.12.32) will be OK with it...

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

That wasn't listed as compatible with the new ROM in the second post in the thread.

It was 1.64.08.21 I used. 1.27.12.32 isn't listed as being tested
