    Sony Ericsson K850i battery problem

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any other K850i users are suffering the same problem with their handset as I am.

Basically, I seem to be going through batteries!

Back in January I got Vodafone to send me a new battery because the phone was not holding charge for much longer than a day. I seem to suffering the same problem again now. I charged it up fully yesterday afternoon yet now I'm down to 42% battery.
I do have my phone on 24/7 so it's very rare that it gets turned off but this is how I always use my mobiles. Also I do not leave bluetooth or anything on so I'm a bit confuzzled.

Anyone else having similar issues or does anyone have a clue what might be causing it?

    Cheers...

Ahh I am connected to 3G most of the time so that's probably it. It's odd though, because for the past 6 weeks or so I've been able to get 3 days use out of it between charges but now it's practically half that.

Yeah, 3G is a big culprit for sucking the battery life. Go into the settings and change the network to GSM (Dual Band) and see how you get on with that.

Re: Sony Ericsson K850i battery problem

Have you recently done the software update?

I've had this problem, and it all seems to stem from the update I had to do a few weeks ago (the thing kept coming up with 'operation failed' when trying to access text messages). It also locks up all the time, so I have to take the battery out to sort it.

I'm having a battle with T-Mobile at the moment, its only 5 months old yet they seem to think this is acceptable and will only look at repairing the phone (well they want me to try a new battery first).

I'm not impressed. I had Sony Ericssons before and they were always great. This is pants

Re: Sony Ericsson K850i battery problem

I generally leave my phone on all the time, but I rarely use it for calls, mainly just texting. I'm having to charge it about every 3 days at the moment. Previously it would be over a week between charges.

I had a different Sony Ericsson before (w810i) and the battery life was great. I used it as an MP3 player and played java games on it a lot and the battery still lasted longer than this one.

I'm also a bit annoyed cos I've tried to access the internet on this phone a few times and it locks up (battery needing to be removed), but T-mobile say that they can see I accessed data (even though I couldn't see it) so are still going to charge me! Shame I've still got over 12 months of my contract left otherwise I'd tell them where to shove it and go back to O2.

ETA: I'm planning on going into the shop and kicking up a stink anyway, hopefully they'll just change it to get rid of me! (don't hold out much hope but worth a try).

I've got to admit, my K850 was received with bitter-sweet sucess, it's a great phone, but 2 major flaws are the rubbish battery life and the sometimes un-usable camera, due to the flash/picture sync... i'm on the latest firmware, but still seems to be an issue.

after my W810, it's a let down to say the least

Yeah, exactly, I had the W810 before too.

I had forgotten about the camera problems, thanks for that, more to add to my 'case'. With mine the flash goes off but the picture is still dark, is that what you meant? A friend had to have hers replaced cos the shutter got stuck.

Maybe I'll try and go into town today.

that's exactly what I mean, the fact that the flash is not properly sync'd with the camera is what ruins it IMHO, with the right light settings, the camera's very good.... but tit for tat, the W810 leaves it standing pretty much all of the time

my shutter jammed to, a phone reset sorted it

Re: Sony Ericsson K850i battery problem

Just a quick update. Went into the T-Mobile shop today. As I could have predicted, they weren't very helpful. Basically all I can do is let them send it to Sony Ericsson engineers to see if it can be repaired (which I can't see them being able to do), or if they can't repair it they will replace it (or potentially them say theres nothing wrong with it and give me this one back). Upshot, whichever way you look at it, is that I'm stuck with this phone for the next year.

I even tried quoting the Sale of Goods Act which states that goods that are less than 6 months old that are faulty are deemed to have been faulty from point of sale, but that went in one ear and out the other.

The assistant didn't even ask to see the faults or seem surprised so I think they know there's a problem with them. She said "I've sold loads and had hardly any back" - so you have had SOME back then!?

Anyway, if you have one of these phones, seems you're probably stuck with it (although I'm considering bunging it on ebay.....)

Re: Sony Ericsson K850i battery problem

Got to love them selling phones that obviously have some serious issues. I just got mine back for a 2 week trip to the service centre only to find they updated firmware and that's it.

Oh but they added a note saying: "customers phone requires full charge" well duhh

When i charge it full it beeps at me and says "charging error! STOP CHARGING" so how exactly am i supposed to get a full charge? usually it says its full for sometimes up to a week and then straight up dies in the middle of a conversation. After the k800i how could they screw this up so bad?

The screen buttons are starting to play up a bit on mine atm but other than that the phone is fine. Battery life still over 3 days

Has anyone experienced the phone randomly turning off at all? Or in the middle of a call the sim card suddenly not being recognized (fixed by turning off phone, removing and inserting sim and restarting). The turning off could have been me accidentally turning it off, although I thought it was on lock at the time...
