Argh!!!! My phone just shot me!!!

Right..

i recently bought an LG viewty...

been going ok so far (the battery life has been very tempermental (i.e. lasting for 3 days sometimes or half a day for others [under the same conditions i.e. just sat on a table]))

but, i plugged it into my computer just now via USB... everything went as normal...

about 30 seconds later it made an allmighty bang (sounded like a very loud electrical discharge...) needless to say i pooped myself

but now the phone is buzzing to it's self... like mini electrical discharges.......

what is going on?????????

How old is it? If its under warranty then send it back for repair.

First 28 days you may find it gets simply switched out.

i don't think so... it can still power and read at full speed.



i think it was my phone, but im not 100% because it was sat on top of the computer, and i recoiled in terror

i just presumed it was the phone because of the crackling afterwards... unless my usb let out too much current or something...

well it nearly gave me a heart attack and i pulled the front off my case as soon as it happened cos i was going for the PSU switch.......... then i heard it buzzing away to it's self...

Heh, just bring it back though, should get a replacement.

well in the end i decided against not taking it back...

but now... the flash doesn't work under any circumstance
the battery life is VERY tempermental
it still fizzes and crackles to itself every so often

is there any point going to phones4u or should i just do it straight through LG?

hmm taktak that doesn't sound good at all, i would take it back to the shop first of all and see what they say, cause it's still early days, it might play up down the line.

i'm trying to recreate the electrical discharges and record them for evidence... (easier said than done )

otherwise LG will prolly try and fob me off

i'll try P4U and see what they reckon... i really don't want to be without a phone for ages again (w810i killed itself)


but at the time it was seriously loud and you could smell the electrical burning smell (you know the one i mean) i really don't want to be on the recieving end of that in the middle of a call cos it made my ears ring when i was 2 or so metres away...

i wish i'd stuck with Sony Ericsson now

edit: the phone is getting quite toasty now... (connected via USB trasferring movies and deleting them to heat it up and try and recreate the problem...)

Get it changed P4U should change it no questions within 28 days otherwise they will send it off. Is it pay and go or contract?

it's PAYG, and i'm also out of the 28days period now
thats why i was wondering whether to do LG directly.. cos surely the phone will just get sent to them?

yeah you should've taken it back straight away, i had a similar problem, and they swapped it straight away... might still be under a 1 year guarentee too though?
