    iPhone 3G: Owners Comment...

Since it looks like quite a few members have already received their mobiles, care to comment on your experience so far with the new model?

I haven't had much time to test GPS or 3G fully (yet) as I've restricted myself indoor for a couple days of studying, but my largest problem right now is the time it takes for iTunes to perform a 'backup' during each Sync. I'm not sure if some rogue app is causing it but I am hoping that the next update will sort it out.

Performance wise, I've not had any crashing or any problems of that nature; scrolling works smoothly and the brilliant speaker on my unit alone makes me glad I upgraded. The ailing speaker on my old iPhone alone meant I missed more calls than liked although callers were usually kind enough to leave a voicemail.

I have been using mine since Friday and its been great so far. Browsing on 3g is fast and via wifi even faster. The screen is easily readable and the touch screen is nice and accurate. I am slowly getting used to the onscreen keyboard and the way that it corrects my typos.

Mike, even though its louis vuitton that case is minging!

Well I have had my 3g 16gb iphone since Thursday and all I can say is.....I love it and glad I bought it.

However I'd like to share some of my thoughts for improvements.

    Here goes...

    1) No resizing of photos when emailing or at least give the option
    2) Ability to rotate the desktop
    3) Ability to turn off the gps
    4) Junk mail filter
    5) Task syncing with Calendar
    6) Volume needs to be louder for the ring tone
    7) Remove 40sec limit on ring tones
    8) Allow using any song from iPod library for use as a ring tone
    9) Also allow use of iPod library for notification alerts
    10) Turn 3g off by default ask to turn on or have setting to always turn on when browsing, using maps or visiting the store
    11) Make camera a video camera probably with reduced resolution.
    12) Volume limiter like on the iPod.
    13) Split Call time into Incoming and Outgoing.
    14) Ability to forward sms.

If I think of anymore I'll let you know but I think that's enough for now.

    Cheers and happy iPhoneing

    Re: iPhone 3G: Owners Comment...

The volume on my iPhone 3G is insanely loud, on full it can give me a right scare at times and I'm not kidding either.

Today I was able to test 3G properly as well as GPS - all I can say is *WOW*. I was inside the cab on the way home and it tracked me most of the way as long as it maintained the LOS with the satellites above. 3G really compliments this with quick (almost instantaneous) updating of the maps).

GingerNinja: I have been able to make my own ring tones, and import into iTunes. Full length tracks too so no limit there.

It would be nice if there was a way for the phone to let you know when calling 0845 numbers, as these tend to rack up quickly on my O2 bill even though I have loads of free minutes left.

Glad I got mine as well

Update: After an entire day out in town, I just synced my iPhone 3G and it did a full sync (including backup) in under 2-3mins like normal! I guess that slow backup issue is sorted for now, although I have not installed any new apps since the last 'full' backup which took over an hour.

Jim: LOL, I only just figured out what "It's minging" means (that's to Urban dict.). It just reminds me of MGS (3 in particular) for some reason...

    Mike,

Which iPhone do you have ?
Mine is the 16GB version and all I can say is the volume is definitely not loud enough.

How are you managing to get the full song for the ring tone ?

    Cheers

My only gripe is that it cannot yet be used as a modem via bluetooth, but hoping they will be able to do that soon. I would jailbreak it to get that feature, just like I jailbroke my iPod touch in the past for certain features. Otherwise I am very happy.

Hopefully the new V2.1 Firmware will bring some of these features to the iPhone

I'm just posting to get enough posts in order to post URLs.
I can use both my MBP and my Powerbook at the same time tethering.

I managed to tether in Bootcamp Windows once but not sure how I did it. Cant seem to do it again.
But in Safari OSX it works as well as Firefox after making some Proxy adjustments in System Prefs.
