    Signal Boosting - My predicament!

Ok, so I have a 4bar signal at the window in upstairs bedroom. In all the downstairs rooms there is no signal at all. The joys of living in a valley! I have no idea about these things, so i'm hoping one of you do!

    My question is:
What is the cheapest way to effectively boost that 4bar signal i'm getting at the upstairs room window, to the rest of the house?

    Thanks in advance .

    Mobile or Wifi ?

If it's the former then there is not really much you can do until femtocells appear.

You tend to find mobile signal boosters are more business type orientated devices. We have one in the back of our store hooked up so all networks get a 100% 3G signal in the shopping center. For the consumer it will most likely be an expensive piece of kit.

I will take a look about and see what I can find for you though a little later this aft

Found this but it is pricey, you put your network details in the bottom of the screen and it recommends which one to go for. If you are on 3 you will need an even more expensive one as their network is 3G only, all other networks though still have the dual band GSM signals :

You can get these little card things that sit under your battery for considerably less though. Most sites they are getting mixed bag of comments though, might be worth checking one of those things out before forking out a few hundred.

Link for the internal under the battery thingy!!! (Very technical I know considering I work for Voda!!! ) :

I'm pretty sure one of those battery things won't work. The signal downstairs is non-existant. The one at upstairs window must just be clear, but weak. As at the window it's 4-5bars and in middle of that same room there is no signal. A little aerial outside the window on side of house transmitting into house like those repeaters would be perfect.

200m^2 range on those repeaters (minimum) though! Surely someone could make a killing if they released a lower range one for houses for a cheap price! I found some of those when I went out searching but £235 is lower than what I could find - still extortionate though .

Thanks for having a gander anyway .

    Femtocells information

I think it's all self-explanitory really and there was a bit of noise about them a while ago but now it seems to be pretty quiet on this technologies front.

As you can see it's an emerging technology so it might be a while off as yet.

Those under-the-battery stick-on 'antennas' don't work. When I was running a Nokia Service Point a couple of us tested them with the Willtek and we saw no increase in reception looking at the raw data dumped from the phone.

How are they supposed to work anyway? As some sort of wave guide? They don't have any connection to the actual reception equipment, so I was always a bit puzzled by their claims.
