I use Garmin, works a treat. If the GPS receiver doesn't work with it out the box, you might need to change one of the settings - should be straightforward.

What GPS/satnav options are available at the moment? I don't want to use A-GPS or get it to use any of the network charges for downloading data (maps on the fly etc). So which software packages allow for the maps to be saved to the memory card rather than Nokia Maps for example

I have a 6650 (T-mobile) which has pretty much the same software/hardware as the N95

Nokia Maps does allow you to save to the memory card though? You just need to install the Nokia map loader, and let that download the maps over your home internet connection and onto your memory card.

The N95 8GB had the UK maps preloaded, which was nice of them
The licence for voice-guided directions... not so good.

Another vote here for Garmin. Much better than the Nokia version.

Thanks for info. I'll try again with Nokia maps and download the maps to my memory card.
So in theory, if I have map's installed, could I still plot a route and use it to navigate, without getting hit for GPS charges?

I think there's a version of Tomtom available which can use the internal GPS on the N95.

this is most likely down to file extentions within windows being left on the end of the file, whether its hidden from view it can still be there and the device cannot recogise it! easily fixable

nokia maps isnt very good at all!

garmin works, but im not a fan

tomtom mobile is the best of the 3 ive tried
