This might be a bit old...

Today I decided to 'pwn' my 2G iPhone. I found that Quickpwn didn't actually take care of the SIM unlock so I used PwnageTool which worked great.

I'm completely in love with Cydia and do you have any favourite must have apps? What the BEST Winterboard theme out there ???

Strange, quickpwn should do sim unlock too providing you give it the right firmware files when it asked...

I ziphone'd my 2G 1.1.4 minutes after I bought it (unlocked and running on vodafone quite happily), then upgraded to 2.0 (and 2.02) with pwnagetool... Then got brave and tried the quickpwn method for 2.1 as I was "mildly annoyed" to have to restore music etc with a whole new pwnagetool install

After the itunes update to 2.1, and after the "firmware update" message in itunes, I was on 2.1 however my phone was still unlocked. Quickpwn then worked its magic and jailbroke the device, but gave me the option to unlock if I gave it the necessary files?

Are you using Windows or Mac? I think the Windows version of Quickpwn has the option for 'unlocking' ...the Mac version, which I used, does not...

It simply creates the IPSW, asks to enter DFU and uploads...that's it.

With iPwnageTool once iTunes uploaded the 'custom' iPSW BootNeuter kicked in and that did the trick tbh.

How do you like Cydia...still playing around with the various themes. The Koi Pond lock screen is great

Aha, that'll be it then - I use the Windows version of QuickPwn. I thought quickpwn wasn't about creating a new IPSW, but was more about exploiting the ram disk hole which is why it's a bit quicker than the full pwnagetool (which took an age on my ibook g4)

I do like cydia, prefer it greatly to installer - not got the koi pond lock screen, so am just downloading that now

I thought it creates the IPSW directly without giving you any options? I actually found the PwnageTool to take longer on my MacBook Pro (2.33 GHz btw). This could also indicate that Quickpwn did leave something important out. I ended up using PwnageTool in expert mode and that helped.

It's great that the iTunes App store also works. I've got a ssh server running on the iPhone as well which is great as I can now SFTP stuff to and 'fro from it. Looking to try 'tethering' later on; got to modify the ringtones now

Ah, I'm really not sure what it does. I think quickpwn on windows extracts some bits from the ipsw file and uses those bits to hijack the boot process, but I really couldn't swear to it. You're right though, pwnagetool takes ice ages - glad to hear it's not just my G4 being slow

I've been inspired to have a look at how to create a theme. Blimey, it's easy.

I do feel an amigados 1.3 and 2.0 theme coming up soon, just for Retro goodness
