Which iPhone? If you were going to get an iPhone now, which would it be? I am coming to the end of my contract and am fed up carrying around my bulky HTC Kaiser, so am looking for a new phone. I do like the new HTC's, but fancy a change from a business style phone to something a little faster and more user friendly. So I'm looking at the iPhone. However, it seems that people don't think there's a massive upgrade from the 3G to the 3GS. The Apple website only really advises a better camera, video recording, improved performance, voice control and compass, but these don't really bother me (except the speed). The major difference of course is the size of the memory, the 3G being 8GB and the 3GS having either 16GB or 32GB. For me, I think the 32GB would be over kill, as well as stupidly expensive. 16GB would be very nice, but I'd rather not pay £90 to get it (oh, I'm looking at getting the 24 month contract with O2 at ~£35 a month). Since the only other real difference I would worry about is the speed, would the 3GS really offer 2x performance over the 3G and is the 3G fast enough to use anyway? Cheers in advance for any advice. If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Re: Which iPhone? I have the 3G (non S) version of the iPhone and have compared app access speed with a friend's 3Gs iPhone.... my perception is this - many of the speed enhancements seem to have been derived from an upgraded OS, so.... my iPhone has benefited from the updated OS and as far as I can tell there is no real world difference in performance between the two types aside from the obvious addition of voice activated command and video to the 3Gs....

Re: Which iPhone? Crikey, that's pretty impressive. Seeing that video makes me think the 3GS might be worth that little extra, the slowness of my Kaiser is getting to me now, I don't think I could get the 3G knowing it was that much slower than the 3GS. Also, how good are those apps he was starting up? Sims 3? Need for Speed? Do they play well on the iPhone at all? If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Re: Which iPhone? So far as future proofing goes, get the 3GS if you can afford it. The new processor alone is worth the difference and I can see apps being optimized for the 3GS's A8 rather than the ARM11 in the older models. Plus the 3GS has twice the RAM as well... these two factors manifest in much quicker loading times. Oh, and forgot, I compared the 3GS with my original iPhone and games are a lot smoother too.

Re: Which iPhone? I was looking at new phones for a few months, I kept going back to the iPhone... Then got the HTC Touch HD.. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Re: Which iPhone? Ive just moved from a kaiser to a touch diamond 2, very impressive phone, compact and noticeably faster on the stock rom than my kaiser running a fast custom. And obviously all my apps moved with me

Re: Which iPhone? i upgraded my 3g 16gb and i feel its a bit slower than when it was on 2.2.1 now every app would take around 2 to 3s before it springs up and sometimes you see a lag so if money was object then get the 3G s
