Totally amazed by this handset, have had it since it came off the delivery truck at 9.30 at the Orange store in Cheltenham on Wednesday.... sad I know!

Did a full review HERE for you all to see my thoughts.

Have to say this is the first phone I have seen / used / had that is a realistic competitor to the iPhone. It trumps it on many levels (apart from the vastness of the apple app-store) and I would urge anyone to have a good go with it!

As for the "chin" at the bottom of the handset, it actually makes holding it much more comfortable and makes sense for navigating using the scroll-ball, or buttons at the bottom.

As for fitting in your pocket, can't say I find it uncomfortable, but then I don't wear skin-tight trousers like some people!

I don't understand the obsessive repulsion that seems to exist with the "chin" on the htc phones.. in practical terms it protects the screen and trackball from any possible damage whilst on a table or surface.. and its not exactly the end of the world when its in your pocket.

I do believe that as of the G1 there are service manager apps that you can download to control the background goings on of the phone (sort of like windows task manager) which can help you save battery life and power.

Wish i had an android phone!

    Hi Nadeen,

To add multiple contacts to a person add the first number and then save the contact. Then go back to edit the contact and there`ll be an option to add another contact.

An even easier way is if you have windows vista/7 used the windows contacts and add all the details there then sync with your phone. That way you have all your contacts backed up on yhour computer as well

    Hi Kopite,
    Thanks for replying
Are you going to put a sat nav on ur phone?
Which is the best do u think?
I dont know if I will use Orange maps cos I read that I will have to pay more if I have it voice activated , also it costs me to use it in Ireland and I am always there, doesnt seem fair really.

I have been looking at sat nav but the free ones dont seem to great atm.

CO-pilot is supposed to be pretty good and its only 26 quid for uk/ireland.

There`s talk of garmin making an android phone which should in theory mean that garmin software will be available later this year. again it`ll be paid software but garmin are usually really good

    Hiya Kopite,

Hope all are getting on well with this phone.

Can i recommend to people the "Taskmanager 1.7" application. This as previously stated is a great tool to help you make sure that you don't overload this multi-tasking wonderphone by having too many applications left over which helps keep the phone speedy and frees up valuable battery life. It also tells you CPU/Memory usage which can be quite useful.

Also if you are the lively type Shazam is a must have app, free, and will find details of any music track if you let it "listen" to it.

I have also been facinated by the following apps

    Metal Detector
    Hark
    GTranslate
    Colour Blind Test
    BeebPlayer
    Torrent-Fu

    And games..

    Torrect Lite
    Andtangle
    Solitaire
    Robo Defense
    Magic Marker
    Doom
    SNESoid

    The list keeps growing!

    Ben

Why follow the sheep? The HTC has far more too it, is much better designed and of course is open source and not run by the dark lords at Apple and their iTunes minions...

If all your videos and music are already on iTunes you might not be fussed, but I prefer not to dabble with that appalling program.

Or get one of the HTC WVGA phones. Much better than the iphone, and usually cheaper!

It's not a matter of being a sheep, the iPhone has some dam good uses.

I'm going to play with them both shortly, but a friend already has the Hero and is already getting pee'd about it's speed (or lack of).

I really have no brand loyalty and will go with what's best for me at the time (although I love open source stuff), but if it's as slow as people are making out, I'll be giving it a miss.

Heroe is slow, there is no denying it but thats because teh phone is running like 20 different programs in the background. The OS just needs tweeking or the hardware in the phone cant cope.

One thing good about heroe over iphone is its communication features. you can communicate in more ways than ever straight out of the box. Iphone cant multitask btw. the only app you can multitask is the itunes. thats it.

    here is a good comparison:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5F0R...layer_embedded

imo, going by that video in a none biased approach, i'd say the iphone looks better ,has a better screen and has a better response times in the OS. Other then that, i would say hero does everything else better than the iphone.

At work we have received these phones and i can definetly confirm that it is a bit sluggish and that is from turning it on straight form the box with no additional apps installed.

As said they do get a bit sluggish but a quick click on task killer and everything is nippy again

There should be a firmware update for it soon which should tweak the issues.

Plus Video playback is spot on Watched lots of videos on it and have had no slowdown. even watched youtube and they have worked fine
