Re: HTC HERO Arrived today :D

I've got a couple more questions (i really need to stop asking and just buy)

Is anyone using gmail as there email provider and which app are the using on the phone. The gmail one or the htc one.

Plus does it support push email or at the least can you get it to check for emails every 15mins.

And the last one does anybody have gmail on tmobile as i've read somewhere it doesn't like to work with gmail or this a load of twaddle.

edit: Plus another question is would you say it looks best in tmobile black or the unlocked white as i can get it in either colour for the same price and i still haven't seen a white one.

Re: HTC HERO Arrived today :D

I'm using the Gmail app that came with it, just emailed myself and it popped up on the phone just a couple of seconds after sending.
There's another email thingy on it also but I've not used it.
Mine's on Orange so can't help there.
The white one is teflon coated, I've looked at the brown, white and graphite..
In my opinion the graphite is the nicest, followed by brown and finally white then pink for obvious reasons.

In that case i'll probaly get the black one on t mobile although i may go into an orange shop and see if i can get a good deal out of them.

What about branding though as i hate being advertised to on my own phone!

Does the T mobile have anything blaring obvious or even small things like a start up screen.

I used the gmail app on the phone for my gmail account and I use the htc mail account for my imap server. Get an update as soon as mail arrives

Battery life seems pretty good getting at least a day`s use out of it but I charge it every night anyway.

HAvent really noticed too many issues with the browsing atm. I am wondering if google will release a version of chrome for it though

Kopite, you tried browsing over WiFi?
Mine keeps getting random lockups, say on google mobile.. I'll do an image search then scroll through some pages and it'll just freeze, lets me tap buttons but it doesn't load anything.

Re: HTC HERO Arrived today :D

Ok, so I've had my Hero since Monday. And today I think I'm ready to get rid of it. Unfortunately since I bought it in store I can't give it back to T-Mob under DSD....

Basically, I just find the phone far too slow. The lag is most definitely there regardless of what I do. I've tried it without TouchFLO and it's still too slow to respond. Even typing on the keyboard I find laggy, as I do with opening menus and even using it as a phone. The browser is good mind you, not quite up to my ipod touch, but very good non the less. As is the speed I get over HSDPA - very impressed with that. However, the aforementioned lag in everything, plus the very poor camera make me just want to go back to my N95.

Shame, I really wanted to like this, but it just doesn't cut the mustard. If anyone can tell me how to make this thing quick, I'm all for giving it a go though!

If you are thinking of buying, spend some time with one first.

Pritsey what exactly are you finding slow about this. Sure its not sure slick and fast, but its not that bad is it?

Zap mine usually connects to the wifi at home and its brilliant for browsing. No issues what so ever!

Pretty much most things unfortunately. When unlocking the screen if I want to move from one screen to another in TouchFlo then there's lag there (no major widgets open). Opening the main menu and scrolling apps is laggy too. I find some lag in typing too, especially if using the phone type keyboard. When pressing the "people" icon on the main screen it'll take a few seconds before it launches. Also the phone app, it'll take a few seconds after hitting a contact before it makes the call. A few times I've thought that it didn't dial so hit the soft key to dial, only then the screen updates and it was trying to call in the background only for it then to update and since I hit the "call" button it thinks I hit the "end call" button and hangs up.

I've never owned an iphone so can't compare with this, but on my ipod touch it's just an awful lot smoother. My old N95 certainly wasn't the fasted phone out there, but it feels better (to me) in quite a few areas.

Now I know - you could easily say "just go back to the N95 and stop whining" but since this is a Hero thread I thought it worth pointing out that it isn't necessarily all rosy in the garden of Android.

Sorry - to answer your question about not being that bad - it's bad enough to make me wish I hadn't got it in the first place and am considering selling it already.

Are you sure there's nothing wrong with your handset or memory card?
I've got every major widget open, each screen full and I can't get any noticeable slow down at all.
Seems to be a common issue but I just can't replicate it on my handset.

Re: HTC HERO Arrived today :D

I'm pretty sure that there isn't anything wrong with either. I've ordered a new class 6 card to try and help a bit too - just waiting for delivery.

The issue of speed in many things can be quite subjective. It could be that we both have exactly the same speed on TouchFLO etc but I consider it to be slow and you consider it to be acceptable?

I'm not trying to poo-poo the phone or put people off, it's very capable and it's an excellent connected device. I just find the lag to be a huge disappointment and impedes on having a good user experience.

I've got an LG Renoir, HTC Touch HD and the Hero, I'd notice if there was slowdown.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just can't replicate it on my handset, maybe I'm just lucky.

If you really have no lag at all, then you must be extremely lucky! I don't even seem to be able to type a text message at any more than 1 char per sec.

That sounds like you may have a problem.

You sure you haven't got a load of programs open. Try downloading a task killing app like other have mentioned. I've also heard that pressing the back button until you get to the main screen, instead of just hitting home, closes the app.

Taskiller is one of the first apps that i downloaded. The more time I spend with it, the more I think of it as junk.

I'm typing this the hero now and the keyboaed is terrible. Think Vista on a 486....
