Is no one excited for Nokia 5530 Xpress Music?

Yeah i know that it lacks 3G and GPS but then it is so cool in looks and includes the new homescreen with kinetic scrolling. The CPU is also much faster than 5800.
The best part is that it is cheaper than 5800.
Am i the only guy who loves 5530?

Its ok if you only need the music player option, but i would wait for the 5800i full spec`s . due out by year-end.

Save up a bit more and get the N97 for the best of both worlds.

N97 is way too bulky in my opinion and hopefully the responsiveness of the 5530 LCD screen has improved otherwise there is no real point to get it. i didnt like the 5800 one bit. so it would really depend on its performance gonna check it out at the stores before commenting further

Re: Is no one excited for Nokia 5530 Xpress Music?

If you don't need the 3G connectivity or GPS for maps, then the 5530 is indeed worth considering. Certainly it looks quite a lot nicer than the 5800 (which I have and am currently using). If Nokia came up with something with the 5530's looks and the 5800's functionality, I'd trade my 5800 in for it

Also the 5530 has a 600MHz processor. It appears to be the same ARM11 core as the 5800 and N97, and is ticking along at a higher clock speed than either. This means the phone will actually be snappier and more responsive. For a low-end smartphone this is a good thing, shows people that smartphones don't have to be expensive to be fast and responsive.

The 5800's music player is excellent in terms of audio output quality (if compared to other music phones, a Walkman would bowl it out for 102 :-/ ) and if the 5530 uses the same audio chip that would make for a very enjoyable experience.

Plus the 5530 is even cheaper than the 5800. I laud Nokia's strategy for keeping Symbian ahead in the smartphone stakes just by numbers - getting lots and lots of S60 touch phones into people's hands for not that much money would help entice more developers to produce more apps for the platform, other development issues with Symbian notwithstanding.

Good point, It was starting to look bad for Symbian developement.

Nokia are making additional pushes for Symbian development by driving web application development through their WRT system. The WRT widgets are essentially web apps which run locally (scripts executed by the S60 browser WebKit engine), so should mobile browser-based web apps take off Nokia and its many handsets will attract many developers.

One example of these web app capabilities is the Accuweather widget for the N97 and 5800 (and soon 5530 too) which can call upon the phone's built-in GPS to get localized weather forecasts.

Thumbs up Re: Is no one excited for Nokia 5530 Xpress Music?

    Hi all.

I have just bought one of these little beauties and Yes, I am excited about it.

Of course it all depends what you want a mobile phone for.. It does all that I want plus a few toys that I can play about with when I get bored. (And probably stuff that I will find in months to come)

The high screen resolution makes video viewing quite an enjoyable experience. No jerking or wandering artifacts. Just very acceptable and watchable video.

The camera, although not up to the spec of more expensive cellphones, is very acceptable and at 3+ megapixels is better than most in the same price bracket.

I particularly like the idea of having 12 of my most important contacts on the home page, with images so I don't even have to read the names. Everyone that has seen this has been impressed.

My only hate with the phone is the way it shows Address information in the single contacts display. It breaks the address down into seperate fields for Street, Town, Postcode and county and then puts the labels (Street, Town, Postcode, County etc.) in amongst the address. This makes it very difficult to read and fills the screen unnecessarily.

I only use WI-FI for internet so I can't vouch for the 5530XM's own web connection, but it's Wi-Fi range is better than my laptop.

All in all I am impressed with this phone.
With a better Contacts APP, it would be perfect for me.

For £129 from Carphone Warehouse, it has to be a good buy.

    ~Mike~

How does one get excited by S60, exactly?

Given the absolute best Nokia have to offer, the N97, is crap - why get excited by some piffling little device which lacks basic telephone features like 3G?

I like the 5530: http://www.cellphone-reviews.co.uk/2...ic-review.html (my own mini review), it's faster than the first gen 5800 (without the firmware updates) and I really think that it's good value for your money though I REALLY would have preferred 3G over WiFi. However, given the choice between the 5530 and the Samsung Preston/Blade, I would probaby opt for the latter because of 3G.

I wouldn't agree the N97 is their best offering - the scrolling alone is deeply frustrating making the N86 and E75 standout as much more usable.

And since when has any phone needed 3G? Lacking 3G is a positive boon to a phone for battery life and reduced weight/complexity and therefore improved reliability.

For a smartphone internet device then yes 3G is a requirement but the 5530 is primarily a phone with a mp3 player bolted on - is 3G really all that relevant for its target market? IMHO it's not.

I loved everything about the 5800 apart from one thing - its looks. But now that there's a 5530 out it seems really worth it, it has pretty much the same specs minus 3G (not really useful for us students IMO) and GPS (again not really useful for students) and thus, it's almost the perfect multimedia phone with a good design. Only downside is that the screen is slightly smaller. But since when has 0.3 inches made that much of a live changing experience? It is a ~10% reduction though...
