iPhone 3GS 32GB PAYG availability. Any stock near you?

I've been trying to buy a new iPhone 3GS 32GB on PAYG for the last 3 weeks now and I can't find a single O2 shop that has any stock. They have also been unavailable on the O2 website for the same period of time, maybe longer. I have been phoning the 5 nearest O2 shops to me every Wednesday and Friday, this is when they get their deliveries, to check on stock. It seems the shops don't know what stock they are getting in advance.

Is there a known shortage of these at the moment? Is there anywhere near you that has stock?

I had the same problem. Go to any Apple store. They all have stock and much better customer care if you get one with a dud battery (which I did - they replaced it, no quibbles at all).

I'm getting mine sent from Australia by friends living there. Might seem drastic but it'll be sim free. :-)

Any O2 store should be able to "convert" a contract iphone to a payg one for the prospect of a sale.

I marched in to my local o2 shop in Hemel the other week looking for a 32gb on payg and the guy said i think we only have contract.

I then replied ohh ok i guess ill go to cex as Ive got the cash here, suddenly his opinion changed to "oh i'll sell you a contract one then, I think I can convert it".

Subsequently another person behind me in the queue jumped forward and said "well you can do the same for me then" - and there you have it. I walked out with a 32gb contract iphone sold under PayG, and I was as happy as can be :-D , and so was the person in the queue behind me :-D

We have 2 32Gb Black and also 2 White on PAYG in stock at min, trouble is I'm up in the North East of the country though!

We are only allowed to transfer PAYG stock occasionally to contract, has to be authorised by higher powers etc

Finally from what I have heard is that there is a global shortage of the 3GS models at the moment, Apple cant keep up with the demand
