    Porting number

My numbers being transferred tomorrow from my old network to my new one due to me getting a HTC hero.

Now the question I do have is whether I need to worry about turning my phone off and anything else along those lines.

    Re: Porting number

Were you assigned a temporary number from the network you are moving to? If not I would look out for your old network sim going off, once that goes off turn your new handset off for about an hour. Your old network going off tells you that the port is starting to go through. When you turn your new phone on if it still shows no service then turn it off for another hour. Rinse and repeat until it comes on.

Ports usually take about 30 mins once your previous sim goes off but if the network is busy it can take a few hours.

    Re: Porting number

I've got a temp number at the moment as I filled.l in my pac at the time of ordering.

So I'm best to leave both.phones on till the old one goes off and then turn my new one off and check every half hour

Yeah, thats the way to go about it. You know the port has started when the sims go off. At least the transfer time now is pretty quick so you shouldn't lose service for to long.

    Re: Porting number

Well it went across today and if i ring my number it ring my new phone and dialing from it shows my number up.

What's interesting/bugging me is that if i look under my phones info it has the MSISDN code down as my temp number.

Anything i should be worried about.

Na nothing to worry about at all mate. Ive seen it before on Erricsson walkman phones where you press the volume down button and it brings up the phone info. They still show the origional number, think it has something to do with the programming on the sim.

    Re: Porting number

I ported my two numbers a couple of months ago. One from Tmob to Virgin and the other three to PAYG tmob.
Both Virgin and tmob advised me to leave the phones on (in your case the one with old number and the HTC) and also make sure they have reception.
I never took note of loss of service, but once ported I got a text and also the old phone had no network id.

    Enjoy your HTC hero!

    Re: Porting number

right well i now seem to be having problems.

My phone now seems to be not able to make calls or recieve them but not all the time.

If dialing out it will just drop the call and when dialling in it will do the same.

But it only does it sometimes. More recently it seems to have a high success rate so i'm going to leave it overnight before i start to worry.

The other problem is that my voicemail doesn't seem to want to work. I never set it up on the temp number and when i tired to just now it said you will now be sent your voicemail code (or something along those lines). Please turn your phone off and then back on. Then as i hang up the call i get the massage and i turn my phone on and off. So next time i dial voicemail it still comes up with it.
    Any ideas.

    Re: Porting number

Call failure rate is just an initial bug, should be ok by tommorow. Its just your number going through it paces on the network and getting where it needs to be fully logged on. As for voicemail, once again maybe it hasnt been fully provisioned yet. When numbers become active they get provisioned with calls and texts initially, then the other services get added gradually over a 24 hour period. Just restart the phone in the morning and try it again. If it isnt on by midday give your service provider a call.
