    Do I upgrade now(before christmas)?

My contract with t-mobile on my kaiser is up. I don't know whether to upgrade now or not. Problem is, I like the touch pro 2 and the xperia 2 is coming out next month(not bothered about changing network if I have to as am more concerned about phone and internet on phone than network). Both look great phones. They both use windows mobile 6.5(which I've been using on my kaiser for ages), but there are now more rumours about windows mobile 7 coming out next year and kicking major a**.

Android phones are getting better and better(I think it'll be a year though before it is really good), so I'm not decided on those phones yet either.

I'm wary about commiting myself to an 18/24 month contract with a lot of possible changes coming out in the next year. I know you can say that something better is always round the corner, but I've found that nothing has really come close to my kaiser in the past 18 months, and I want as future proof a phone as possible.

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    WM7 won't be out for a while.

If I were you, I'd get something THIS year - but not until the end of the month, when most of the new phones coming out in 2009 will be out

There will always be something new and significant coming out year after year, with better hardware or software. It's best to avoid long contracts but I understand how the upfront cost can sometimes be an issue - it certainly was for me as I found even the Nokia 5800 a significant outlay.

Perhaps waiting a month or two for the newer Android phones might be a good idea. Windows Mobile 7 won't be out for at least another year and Android appears to be a lot better anyway (at least according to people at work who've switched). I would say by mid-November you would have plenty of very new models to consider.

Smartphones with the newer ARM Cortex-A8 processors are just beginning to hit the market now, I'd go for one of those over the ARM11-powered ones (although the ARM11 is no slouch it's already 5 years old) for future proofing.

Sounds like you are looking for a touchscreen + HW keyboard.

I think android there is only the G1 (On T-Mob) currently that has that

Personally I think the androids are a bit underpowered compared to the HTC winmob offerings but hopefully this will change soon

Touch pro 2 is not available on to mobile either. i am due for an upgrade soon. can i also wait until november/dec to upgrade or do i need to upgrade now? my 18month contract ends this month. what happens if i dont notify them of my decision? Do they assume i want to stay a further 18months without discounts and a new phone or am i in a rolling contract where i can now cancel whenever i want to?

You can get a touch pro 2 on t-mob through http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/
they gave me a much better deal than directly through t-mob on my diamond 2.
