My N73 is nearly 3 years old. Might get one of these once the price comes down.

BTW no MMS on the phone. Plus some phone type features cannot be done in portrait mode. Apparently this will be rectified in Maemo 6. Plus the battery life isn't as good I hear.

There's often a missing feature or catch that Nokia promise to add in the next model. Hopefully, if Maemo is as open as the above comments suggest, this will only be a temporary set back.

I didnt think the battery would be great, seems to be the thing with these high powered phones, even my n95 8gb only lasts a day, so I charge it every night.

thats what I was thinking and hoping

So maemo 6 is already in the works eh? slightly annoying seeing as the n900 isnt even out yet! makes me feel slightly cheated! unless the n900 is going to be upgradable??

From my understanding it is upgradeable (can't remember where I read this). From doing a quick google I've found that it was possible to upgrade the N800 to the latest OS that came with the N810 so I'd assume the same is possible with the N900. People have also got android and windows 3.1 running on the N810.

Android is a wreck, from a technology standpoint. Oh, sure, I have an Android phone, and it's nice, and it's perfectly usable - but being Open, people have the ability to look under the hood - and under the hood, it's a real mess, certainly when it comes to app porting & development

The N900 is closer to a netbook than anything else, and maemo is a more "real" OS. Although for the life of me I don't know why they opted for Firefox's web engine rather than Webkit (Safari/Chrome)

How is it a wreck? i have looked under the hood as i am a blooming programer and it is a dream to work in for mobile developers. MUCH easier than symbian, J2ME and Objective C

I VERY nearly did go android and if it carrys on the way it is, i will most likely get an android device at some point in the future, I wanted a hero for months but in the end, it lacked the grunt the n900 has, it wasnt an easy decision though

once we start getting nice powerful phones with big high res screens that run on android, i'll proberly go that route, saying that lets see how i get on with maemo first! maybe, judging by some of the other comments i'll be able to install android on the n900 sometime

Pay close attention to the PDF slides for technical detail, especially the bits regarding Android's libc Bionic.

Also fish around for the benchmarks showing apps written on Mono as 5x faster than those written for the Dalvik VM - and apps in C++ or C as even faster
