The iPhone revolutionalise the way a device can be manipulated by touch and gravity. It has 1000's of apps and has one of the best mp3 players built in.
Im no apple fanboy. far from it and still prefer an HTC equivalent but dont slag off the iPhone because it is a brilliant piece of kit that i dont mind having.
