    HTC HD2 - Linux / Android...

Anyone seen this / given it a go?

Development seems to be coming on thick and fast now they fixed the booting issues...

Thread from xda developers - here

it's not perfect by any means, crashes regularly and not everything works, but in a week it's a massive change!

Bonus is you just have to extract some files to your SD card, no risk of breaking anything

Having used android on the HD1 (which had been out for many months), I would suggest not to bother... It is very slow running an os of the micro sd. Wait until they make let one that you can flash onto the rom (but by that time you will probably have a real android phone...

its a valient effort and cant wait for it to be finished but i can stand to wait a very long time, windows is very solid and does exactly what i want, heck it even plays ps1 games . I maybe in the minority but WM is probably the best OS out of the big 3 for me. Albeit im yet to try android for more than a day so when its finished i will give it a whirl

I guess one point I missed was, that as it is installed on the sd, there is no risk in testing it out for fun

Dude, you are in denial. I agree with you that WM is good (was using WM for 5 years prior to android), but it is damn SLOW and is missing app developers. There is no way I (or MS) will go back to WM6.5...

It's really pretty quick on the HD2 - other than boot time... It's far too unstable to use at the moment (combined with the fact that it doesnt work as a phone for voice calls), but 3G, WiFi, GPS, texting, music etc all work alright.

Have just installed cyanogen on my housemates htc magic and so we can both run android 2.1 - it looks much nicer on the HD2, shame it doesnt work properly yet

Most things (inc phone) worked on the HD1, but it was slow. That is all I remember lol.

It looks painfully slow in this video:

I guess it is "pretty quick" compared to WM, but still damn slow compared native android...

that vid is 10 days old, if you check the 'changelog' on xda there has been lots of improvement since then - though i cant see any youtube vids from today.. ah well, one to check out in a month or so to see if it's properly usable then!

Really? Have you tried 6.5.5, it is much better . I cant say its slow but i havent tried WM on other phones to compare, app development thankfully for me doesnt bother me at all since i have satnav and office mobile/opera/fpsece so entertainment and use for me is great.

However, there are still many ways in which it can be improved. Hopefully windows mobile 7 makes these improvements but for now it seems its worse.

Until you have used android, you don't know what you are missing on the apps/widget front, I used to have exactly the same opinion as you until I made the switch. Not sure which version of 6.5 I was using (was an energy rom probably not 6.5.5 though). I still reckon WM6.5 (with sense) is better than iOS (other than speed and apps - but the funny thing is that most of these iphone apps are only useful because the OS is severely crippled), but android is in a league above both.

WM7 is going to be very different, we will have to wait and see what that brings to the table.

I agree with SiM on Android. I've been using it for half a day and love it to bits.

I was having wireless issues at home so went into the Android market place, grabbed Wifi Analyzer for free and there we go, another AP conflicting with mine exactly and several others using the same channel. Time to diagnose? about a minute.

And if this isn't a reason to get a Desire, I don't know what is
