    Free upgrade/new phone...

    What should I do.........

I've had my O2 online contract for 24 months now.... I got a free upgrade last year and i'm due another upgrade now....

So i can decide to get a free upgrade which means I agree to be with o2 for another 12 months...

or should i go onto an O2 PAYG sim card.

    Either way i'd be happy...

I dont use my phone alot.... but i do send a fair few text messages.

The tariff im on at the moment is 500 text msgs, 500 offline minutes, 500 free mins wap, 50 off peak cross network minutes. for £20.

Or I could use an O2 PAYG simcard.. where i'd get 300 txt, for £10 a month top up..

The thing is..... If i upgrade my phone and continue my contract.... which phone do i go for.... At the moment I have a Nokia 7250i. Not a bad phone, pretty simple to use, bit boring though, and a crap camera.

There's a few phones that I like at the moment.... Sony Ericcson K700i and the Nokia 6230.

My friend has a Nokia 6230. I had a little go the other day but it seems very similar to the Nokia 7250i. There isn't a great deal of improvement to convince me to get that phone.

Most of the phones I've owned have been Nokia's so I'm used to them... (5110, 8210, 8850, 8310, 7210, 7250i). A few years ago I had a Sony Ericcson T68i. Nice phone but I didnt really get along well with it. When texting people, to enter a space you have to press number 1. On a Nokia it is zero. It took a while to get used to it. And these small minor problems are what are putting me of getting a Sony Ericsson K700i......

I'm so confused as to what phone I should get... or which tariff I should go onto....

    Any help is appeciated...

Stick to nokia, 6230 are great - you will discover more little features in them as you use them - i still play with mine. also it is just as fast as an en-gage for java games, same specs.

I wouldnt buy another Nokia after owning a SE phone unless there was a seriously good deal happening, or the Nokia offered somthing i needed while the SE didnt.

Nokia has a nice habit of remarketing the same thing over and over and over again, but just changing the shape of the phone :\

Remember the T68i was one of SE's first phones. I belive all SE's phones use 0 as space now (im not aware of any that doesnt), and i prefer the interfaces over Nokia's.
A lot of its down to personal preference though, just pop along to CPW / Link and ask for Demo's of each.

I went from Nokia to SE, and im so glad i did.

The T68 was the first SE phone. The T68i was just a slight upgrade, but might aswell have been their first phone as there wernt many T68s compared to the T68i.

Think you'll find its the # key actually. The T610, T630, K700i, S700i all use # as the space key.

have a look at the nokia 7610.....looks big but isnt too bad, just a little wider than usual making it look chunky. The camera is amazing, and runs on Symbian so pretty stable OS. Aaron will be along to back me up (first time ever lol), he owns one and swears by it.

The 7610 is a great phone. The size isn't too much of an issue as it's not all that thick and that's usually the most important dimension. The size also means that it has a wonderfully big and bright screen.

The camera is very good for a phone and I'd hardly call the phone boring due to it's unusual looks and the fact it runs SymbianOS (meaning you can install lots of 3rd party apps).

It won't be to everyone's tastes though. It's only mono and there's no headphone socket, so it's not the ideal choice if you want to listen to mp3s. There's also no volume control down the side and no IR. It's not a cheap phone either - around £350 SIM free.

Still, IMO, it's the best phone on the market in terms of balance between features/size. Until the Nokia 6630 comes out in a month at least.

Yeah, it's a bit strange with the rotating screen and all. It's basically a 7610 in a different form-factor (no crazy keypad! yay!) and without the megapixel camera.

Oh, did I mention that it runs SymbianOS too?

I've emailed O2 asking when its going to be available as an upgrade... If its within the next month or so... then i'll take the upgrade.....

If not... ill cancel the contract and go elsewhere for the phone

I wonder how much it'll be for the upgrade with O2..... £49.99? +? If i've been with O2 online for 2 years... then surely they should give me a good deal.... loyal customer and all that crap!

You'd be surprised. The operators in Europe are much more interested in new customers, rather than keeping existing customers. Your best bet is to phone them up, complain about the service and tell them that you're moving networks unless they can give you the phone for free/a reasonable price.

Carphone Warehouse are now quoting a December release date for the 6260. I don't know what the hell is going on there, I read somewhere that it was already shipping. It seems very odd, especially since the 6630 (3G/megapixel/Symbain v8.0) is due out this month.

All o2 give me for "being a loyal customer" is a few PAYG sim cards every now and then.

I would go with Aaron on this one, and threaten to cancel your conract. Either that or cancel your contract and start another new one as a new customer...

When I upgraded my phone a few months ago, they wouldn't give the 6230 to me free as I was not a new customer. So I ended up paying £50 for it! When my girlfriend rung to upgrade her phone (she's been with them 2 years, and spends quite a bit) they told her she would have to pay £70 (I think) for an upgrade to a 6230! Really stupid!

Depends what you want really. The 6230 is smaller, a bit faster and has a more conventional keypad. The 7610 has a 1MP camera and you can install a wide selection of 3rd party software on it (like Agile Messenger for MSN/other IM services!).
